To me, boomy, or pounding doesn't equal to deep and rich base. The subwoofer is very powerful indeed, but the speakers don't have the deep and rich base that the Bose have. I compared these two because they were the only two options I had back in the local store. But yea, I think I will listen to you guys' suggestion go ahead and try z 2300. Since I just bought a Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer soundcard, I will want another 5.1 headphone as well![]()
-
This is very convincing. I will order the z 2300 and try it in my room.
-
Make sure to go back in this thread and read up on how you can get them for around $100 deliverd from HP.
HP needs to put me on the payroll!
BTW, for any RAGE fans here, their self titled album sounds GREAT on these!

So this brilliant thought just occurred to me!!
Why don't I go balls out this summer? My HP HDX18 has 2 headphone outputs, I should pick up another set of Z-2300's and run them both through the two headphone jacks!
Not that I am not happy w/ just one, but man two sounds VERY appealing!
Of course, then I'd have two for two different areas of the house if I wasn't happy w/ the sound.
hhhmmm.....

That's a fantastic idea, if you can afford it. My Studio 1535 supports 5.1 surround with three headphone jacks...that would be an interesting experiment.
-
I thought I could get 5.1 w/ my HP HDX too, but not sure if the SPDIF is the same as my last laptop. I believe if I change some setting I could use the mic jack as another output for the 5.1. That's really cool that you have 3 headphone outs!!
So, yeah, you think that would sound good too?
I was even thinking since I happen to listen to mostly rock (unless these are plugged in!) I could just run 2 satellites and 2 subs. Then I would really be hearing that bass drum pound on the rock music. This is important since I play drums.

Also, I'm a drummer as well. I know how that goes. -
So you'd be getting a 6.1 setup. Very interesting my friend!

i read that the z2300 have bad mid range from various websites (amazon, newegg, cnet). how bad is this problem? can it be corrected?
-
It's a lie.
My mid-range frequencies sound fantastic. They were probably listening in a living room or something retardedly open. -
i got the z2300 for about 90 dollars. Hip hip sound excellent. however, when i listened to rammstein benzin, the music is supposed to sound really busy with a lot of things going on at the same time, but it all sounded smudged together. I hope that descriptive enough, its difficult to translate music into words. any ideas on how to configure this system so it sounds better? how do you configure speakers in general?
-
Short of messing around with digital equalizers, the biggest difference in sound on the Z-2300 comes from the bass knob on the remote. Play around with that for a while, try lower or higher settings. Rammstein definitely doesn't need a lot of bass.
-
Shroom, its nothing to do with the bass. It's the satellites which are the down fall of the Z2300. They are not great. I spent 2 weeks with a set and they really didn't impress me considering it price. While I can see how its a decent set of speakers for bass heads, for people who don't need that excessively large bass like myself. The 2 satellites simply lacks real quality.
-
well which ones would you pick up for 100?
-
For around the same price, the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 is a decent set of speakers.
-
So I hooked up my old Z4 Satellite speakers to the Z-2300 Sub and I am VERY happy w/ the sound!!
Now I know that the Z4's can't handle all the power the Z-2300 puts out, so I keep it under 50% for now and no distortion!
Next I will be looking into getting a RCA Splicer for each channel on the Z-2300 that way I can have the Z4 Satellites and the Z-2300 Satellites hooked up at the same time, therefore cutting the wattage in half and cutting the change that I blow the Z4's down, while giving me a total of 5 speakers!
I am also considering ordering another set of Z-2300's just for the sub. I will then plug in both Z-2300 systems through my Dual Headphone Outputs on my HDX18. I will only keep one set of Satellites hooked up though. Dual Subs.Should be interesting.
I also find that I will need a serial cord extender so that I may place the Sub in different parts of the room and have a longer Remote Control.

That's an interesting setup idea. Let us know how that works out when you get it all hooked up!

Z-2300 makes for good gaming speakers as the lack of mid is not important in gaming. But for music is is lacking. For 2.1 systems around $100 for music Swan M10 > Klipsch Promedia 2.1 > Logitech Z-2300. Swan does not have a subwoofer so I would go with the Klipsch. -
Another Z-2300 user here. They're great speakers IMHO. I'd buy them again in a heartbeat.
-
I listen to music on these things, and I don't have any problems with mids. Mind you, I listen to quite a variety of musical styles and genres, too. If there truly is a lack of mids on these speakers, I can't notice it. Then again, I never pretended to be an audiophile.
-
-
I have no problem with mids either. Everything sounds fantastic. The sub kicks hard and I really like the control pod. Very convenient.
2.1 speaker system (bass most important part)
