Well I move the mouse really fast.. the old generic gateway mouse skips since it can't keep up. I play better with my diamondback 3g since i like the shape a lot more than my other mice.
Like I said before though just get what feels comfortable to you >.>

How did you guys decide on which mouse to buy. I'm really kinda lost. I felt the sidewinder and it felt really nice but i'm afraid it's too big and my arm is gonna get tired using it, especially since I think I have more of a claw grip.

Any advice will be helpful, thanks.

I also feel that the Deathadder would just be a better overall mouse for me since I've been using a cheap logitech one that is roughly the same size, even though I have kinda big hands.

I actually own the Old and trusted MX518, and it does have "on the fly sensitivity adjustment". Might wanna change that statement.

I have the sidewinder with me now. I don't like it all. Even though I have big hands, it's still just too much mouse for me. Looks like I'll be returning it and getting the Deathadder.

Im looking for a new gaiming/precision mouse, as my G7 has died and went out getting a Logitech Wave Desktopset to replace it. I wanted a wireless keyboard and mouse for lay-back gaming (Warcraft 3, Medieval 2 and other non FPS) and browsing, but the mouse with the set, just dont cut it for FPS and im now looking for either a G5, Razer Deathadder or Diamondback 3G. I just cant really decide, as the G5 will fit in, without the need of more drivers running and other apps for mouse/keyboard, but the Deathadder seems to be a very nice mouse, also it is a bit cheaper.

Is there anyone that can tell something about the Razer's drivers use of ressources?

Razer's Drivers use a LOT of resources compared to others.

they have 3 Processes just for running your mouse.

So if u are bothered about that then get a Logitech G5.

but remember that DeathAdder is much lighter & fits your palm better.

I have used G5 & know its not better than DeathAdder.

Thats quite a lot of processes for just running a mouse

But I was more thinking about RAM usage :) 3 Processes can be still be small :p
Yes im a bit bothered about that, as im running Vista I got almost 70 processes running, at the time being :(

Hey nocturnal waddup. Glad i could help! Anyway just a little more info on the latest updated software/driver for the mx518. I can set the DPI from 400 up to 1600. Your friend should have the software for "set point" from logitech to have this active it should be in gaming settings then advance game settings and bingo adjustments for DPI on the fly!

I got a question for ya though Nocturnal i have been looking at the DeathAdder for quite sometime since my GF now uses my m518x is this a viable upgrade to how the m518x performs? Specs seem close and the feel on the DeathAdder feels nice! Not a claw grip player. Tried my friends boomslang but couldnt adjust to that claw style cramps ma hands lol...

well, its been a few days ive had my G9 now and ive got to say that it is the best mouse ive ever used. It fits the hand nicely and it works great. The only drawback i can tell so far is the laser as you described in the guide. It is kind of annoying having the mouse track even the ~3mm lift off distance it does. Other than that, its a great mouse and im glad i went for it. It does take a few days to get used to the mouse though, but after you get passed those few days it is a great mouse

Im just wondering why laser technology is used in gaming mice, is it cheaper or something?

Nop, laser technology has lot of advantages.

Laser sensor works n almost ANY surface.

although new 3G IR sensors also work on lot of surfaces.

also, Laser mice can support lot of DPI...

IR can never reach 4000 DPI of lachesis.

Hence, Laser is more suitable if u have Big screen like 1920 X 1080 etc etc.

Basically its like a Plasma v/s LCD war.

Plasma = Laser sensor (better in technology but losing the battle)
    LCD = IR sensor (winning)

nocturnal310: Now we shouldn't make this a Plasma vs. LCD thread ;) But if you talk to most Hifi people, plasma is the way to go ;) Take a Panasonic PX80, you will have to pay around twice the price for getting a LCD that will match it in black level and color accuracy :) And if you talk about FullHD, its overhyped if you have a screensize -42", unless you sit right next to it. But if you really want picture quality, get a projector ;)

But all in all, it really depends on where and what you will use it for :)

Still havent responded to my question yet nocturnal need to see if the DeathAdder or the Diamondback is a good upgrade to a MX518. I walked into best buy the otherday and both sport the new 3G IR with a DPI of 1800. I cant use the MX518 cause well my girl now plays on my comp and my laptop needs a new friend.

Its much better than MX518 in design, performance & comfort.... it doesnt become slippery when your palms sweats.
I have also used MX518 & this clearly outperforms MX518 overall.

Dont hesitate to Buy Deathadder if u are a right hander and have the Cash rite now.

If u are LEft Handed then Stay away from DeathAdder.

U wont even be able to use Half of its Features like Side buttons.

I am semi ambi-dextrous and i tried Left hand with Deathadder..it was impossible to play.

Ive just gotten my Deathadder, but yes, it seems that there "only" are 3 settings: 450, 900 and 1800 DPI. But, you have COMPLETE controle over the sensitivity; X- and Y-axis sensitivity can be controled seperatly, there is a "Win Pointer Setting" to specify the sens in windows, a master sens controle and also a slider for accleration :)

Ive used it for a day now, and TBH its the one of the best mice ive used to date :)

    Nice review nocturnal310,

I didn't know i was a "Claw" lol Makes sense since i tend to have a very sensitive mouse and don't "move" it much. It's good for sniping but tends to be a little erratic for running/shooting etc... unless you dial back the DPi.

I have recently bought a Razer lachesis, it's awsome, very comfortable but, takes some getting used to. I use a little notebook mouse for work (2000Dpi) and with the Lachesis on 4000 Dpi, it seems waaay too fast but, half an hour and seems normal lol

    Great work though

    OB

So i bought the Razer Deathadder and damn am i pleased how it performs. I love the fact i can adjust the sensitivity on the fly, and it out performs my m518x by quite a bit. Feels better and i like the button placement on the side of the mouse great for in game short cuts! though only 3 DPI settings being able to adjust the sensitivity is still a great plus!

I bought a Deathadder and I like my G9 a lot better actually.

I love the side scroll options for the scroll wheel. The Deathadder does not have this. I have it macro bound to next tab (left scroll wheel is previous, right scroll is next tab)

Deathadder feels cheap. I like the rubberized part but the glossy black body feels substandard. The G9 exudes quality. 2 different style grips and textures, the little weights and tray, the metal scroll wheel with rubber center grip, etc. The Deathadder's pulsing blue LED and blue lit up scroll wheel are merely ok in comparison.

Deathadder is light weight; really light weight. I didn't realize how much difference the weight in my G9 added. I like being able to customize the weight.

The size of the Deathadder is good though, my hand rests comfortably on it. The left thumb buttons are also much larger and more easily accessible than on the G9.

DPI settings has to be changed by flipping over the Deathadder. On the G9 it can be set right below the left mouse button.

Despite the gold-plated USB connector, the cord on the Deathadder feels really cheap. It's very thin. The G9 has nylon braiding on its cord which is a nice touch.

Overall, I love the G9 a lot more than the Deathadder. I'll probably be getting a Logitech G3 in tomorrow so I can make additional comparisons.

    *edit*
Forgot to add a comment about lift-off distance. It has never bothered me on my G9, but I also play with high-sensitivity so I don't lift my mouse much.

I have both mice side by side now and if anything, the Deathadder tracks from higher up than the G9. Also, the lift-off distance is more like 5mm; 10cm is way over-exaggerating (seriously, who has seen a mouse that tracks from 4" off of a surface unless it was intended to do so? :p)

If u got sweaty palms then get a mouse with Rubberized Skin.

Like Deathadder or Lachesis. but they are much more Expensive.

I've used cheapo mice, used a G5 at work, and have a MX 1000 Laser cordless and a new G9 at home. For me, the G9 is the best mouse, with the MX 1000 coming in behind. I find that most mice give me a lot of hand strain, but the G9 is nice and wide, so a don't get the hand strain problems. The MX1000 is also big, because they had to fit a battery in it.

Personally, I love the G9. If you have larger hands or get hand pain using most mice, I'd recommend trying it out.

Are you sure that the diamondback is a clawgrip? I own a diamondback 3g and it's very uncomfortable when you hold it like that.

You should probably tell people that are left handed, that the diamondback 3g is a great alternative to the deathadder if you are left handed. The diamondback 3g is basically a deathadder with an ambidextrous design and it seems to be cheaper.

    Great guide btw.

i personally dont like the MX 518 much, the G5 is way better, the price is almost the same as well. The MX 518 has a horrible wheel and it takes quite a bit of force to press...also the sensitivity adjustment buttons are a bit touch and go...dont always work at first press...also the G5 has seprate adjustments for for X and Y axis

Iv just orderd a razer krait, should arrive tomorrow or day after, cant wait. Iv been using a £15 "gaming mouse" from amazon called a crosshair, 1600dpi, wired, optical etc. and its better than a standard mouse but i just feel like an upgrade.
Has anyone had any experience with a krait?

edit - I just patched my mouse sample rate so it can go to 500mHz rather than the 125 cap that MS put on it. My ****ty mouse wont go over 130 though, should be interesting to see how high the razer can get.

Been playing Gunz: The Duel, maybe thats the cause of it.. i keep on lifting my mice when nearing the mousepad edge and return to middle and bang it to turn 180 degrees..

Actually Razer's are cheaper than Logitech.

infact, deathadder is cheaper than G5.

but if u want a great performance mouse for low price.

then MX518 is THE BEST mouse for u.

u dont really need to waste so much on mouse if u dont feel the need.

Did you do any research to backup your different types of gamers?

Also, I have to disagree, I have a Logitech MX518 and I use it with a claw grip as my fingers are a bit long, but everyone I know also uses it with a claw grip, anyone with fingers slightly longer than average have to use it with a claw grip.

    No Umar,

Skipping only occurs when u move your mouse at high speeds.. each mouse has a certain speed at which it skips.

its like this... when u climb up a staircase very fast u sometimes leave 1 or 2 stairs.. and take larger steps.

    same case with mouse...

this happens when the sensor is no longer able to process the surface grids..

but in new Gaming mice this is fixed by using 1000Hz polling rate which gives a much faster Processing rate thereby preventing Skipping.

You mentioned 3G IR, it would seem that Logitech should start incorporating this type of sensor in its products as well? Why is this not happening?

Any issues with latest Razer mice? I'd prefer a Logitech, but it seem that currently Razer has the competitive edge...

Suriously it depends on the person. If you like logitech go for it most gamers wont notice a big enough difference. personally I find razor mice snap easy/break easy aswell as feel cheap. but thats MY opinion. EVERYONE is biased regardless if they say they are not.

Initially when i saw Razer lying in the stack next to Logitech....(this is when i didnt know Razer inc. existed)..i thot it must be some cheap Chinese generic brand.

Later my friend spoke to me & told me about this emerging brand called Razer.
Did some research & bought my Razer.

I am telling u... i was about to pay the money to the cashier for Logitech G5 when suddenly i stopped & spoke to my friend.

Later i went back same place & bought my Razer Deathadder.

I was nervous like X2P that Razer mite be cheap and brittle ...but its the opposite.

Razer mice are High performance, premium gaming mice.
on the other hand Logitech has all kinds of mice so their are not focussed on Gaming series alone.

its a classic case of Horses v/s Unicorns... to each his own.

I went for the DeathAdder since I was able to get it for about $22. It's awesome and feels great to hold.
The only problem I've come across is that sometimes when I plug the mouse into my laptop, I get a BSOD. I updated the firmware and driver, so I hope that will stop it from occurring.
