A guy locally is selling a Humanscale Freedom for 300 bucks. He's used it for a few years but the pictures look pretty decent. I'm gonna go take a look at it tomorrow.

Do you think I should go for it (provided that it fits well), or should I get one online (ebay, e-tailer, etc.)?

the chair itself features some really nice options, but i don't know. from what google is telling me, u can get one of these for around $350 brand new. albeit it's more of the base model, i just don't really know about buying a used chair that old.

You are right, I looked up some online prices and some ebay stores are selling refurbs for $350 shipped, so I might as well go for those.

There's also the Steelcase Leap for around the same price. Does anyone have experience of both chairs they would like to share? There aren't any showrooms around where I live so I'll have to take your words for it. :)

Costco has this chair for $100 that's simply amazing... I've been using it for ~6 months and I've never sat in such a comfy chair. There's a $200 version with memory gel but I passed :p The company is called True Innovation

I broke down and bought a refurb Leap on ebay for $380 shipped (most buyers claim that the chairs are as new, so that's good news). Getting it next Wednesday, super excited! Byebye body pains!

What you guys think about the Steelcase Think? Anyone got it? Anyone with first hand experience? I'm looking for something truly ergonomic. Sitting for such long hours everyday and not taking caring of my back needs to change.

    Thank you

Steelcase is a great brand... :) One of my former bosses had a Steelcase chair. And, if you can find a Office/Furniture store that sells them..sometimes, they have a "Outlet" where you can find discounted Steelcase chairs, etc.

Had some more people interested in that chair I got from staples, full mesh like the herman miller w/ headrest.

Going to put a little showcase video on my to do list so you guys can see what its like since there is nothing on the net about this chair.

i still find it really weird that there's no info of it online. i got to check it out really briefly at a local staples and was pretty impressed. too bad the one they had on the showroom floor didn't have a headrest, so i didn't get to fully enjoy it.

from what i remember, the Verreta had really smooth functions. the tilt and seat depth adjusters moved very easily and was precise. i can't wait for u to post more about it. :D

Any chair that can be in the discussion for the best in the world has to allow for a forward leaning sitting angle. This angle helps keep the body and spine in a natural alignment. The kneeling chair (at least the original variable balans kneeling chair) does provide that forward lean, and the knee support is simply to hold yourself up. That is what makes the kneeling chair great, sitting on a plastic ball is not a real alternative in that regard. If you are tasking (at a computer desk) you need a chair with that forward lean.

I thought I'd chime in that I've said '**** it, too much choice' and ordered an Embody with all the trimmings (i.e. same configuration but different seat colour to below). It didn't actually wow me in the very brief demo-sit I had, but I'd been bombarded with so many other chairs that I'd kind of lost the will to live / choose.

Which leaves one slight problem in that I've got to wait for it with no office chair at home, since the previous chair finally expired a short while back. Hopefully it'll turn up soon, or I'll have to drag back one of the Aerons from the office...

I went to staples and tried out this chair you all speak of. It was ok IMO. I personally like the Stratton much much more. But I don't sit in my chair 8 hours a day, only like 4 or 5. And when I do sit in my chair I want it to be soft and fluffy.

LOL, theres' no such thing as the best chair in the world; to many different backs and bottoms for that. In addition, any one that feels good initially, may not be so comfortable after a few hours.

Nevertheless, if I were looking for a good chair my first criteria would be to find one with the greatest variety of adjustments, i.e. back, height, lumbar, tilt, rake, etc.

In my view, the greater the adjustments, the greater the chances of finding a comfortable long-lasting position.

Anybody who's thinking of getting an Aeron chair should think twice - they're great for the office since everyone's wearing office attire, but if you're at home and you wear shorts/miniskirts/etc, the mesh slowly bites into your skin. It's bad enough over the course of a day that even though it's summer, very few people in my office wear shorts on casual dress Fridays.

BTW, I finalised this order after the local vendor had a couple of queries about a week from the posting date of the above... and I'm only now due to take delivery in about a week's time.

Here's a tip: Don't buy heavily customised Embody's if you want it fast. They take 40 days minimum.

Well actually, not 40 days. 40 WORKING days. Two fricken months!!!

...And I did drag one of the Aerons back home. Unlike the office where I'm moving about all the time, at home I spend a good deal of time in the chair - and sitting on one for a good length of time again, I was reminded how unergonomic Aerons actually are. I'm now using a fold-up chair.

The Embody looks, and in my brief sit-test, seemed more ergonomic. Let's hope the wait is worth it...

Problem is, it needs an H.R. Giger fitted room to go with it. And if it had motorised wheels (and the ability to go up and down stairs) I think my life might be complete...

When i bought mine a few years back I thought "those korean pro starcraft players spends 12 hours a day glued to their seats, they must surely have really good seats".

after weeks of translating websites, forums and comparing pictures i got 2 of these (for me and my wife :D )

Cool, similar to my chair and I play SC2 (but more like 12 times a year not 12 hours a day)

I find in a lot of pro player interviews that my equipment far exceeds what they have in terms of computer hardware & audio hardware.

One thing the latest interview I saw with Idra and Machine is a mouse bungee.... I may get one of those but not the overpriced Razer branded one.
