not really. It only gets hot in one particular place when it's that hot. the keyboard and stuff are fine :p

actually now that I think about it I NEED my laptop to last me longer than 2 years, hopefullly 3 or 4. I need it for college.

It only gets real hot when I game, I think I'm going to buy the zalman for it when I'm at home (only time I'll play games) and when I'm using it for other things I won't need the cooler :p

hey also how well does this airflow mod work?

You shouldn't do this, because the main difference of Zalman from generic cooler is the vents, air coming to entire bottom of the laptop. And G50Vt need air say hello to its bottom since its vents are spread out all over the bottom.
PS: I think we are discussing this problem in a wrong place. Some thread in ASUS forum would be a much better place.

    My Aeolus just arrived.

    The results? Disappointing.
I only got a 1-2c drop in temperatures for ~$50.

I'm sorry for that. You must have hoped a lot in that cooler. Why don't you take its huge fan out and go to FedEx, beg for a small box then build yourself a cooler like me? I cannot find such a big fan like that in my place, so I have to stay with 120mm fan.

Well it seems to have dropped my idle temps on the GPU by 5c, and on the CPU by 10c.
Stress tested temperatures on both CPU and GPU are only 1-2c lower than before, but it takes much longer to get to that temperature. It goes higher much slower.

I might actually do that, the box is starting to look good. :p

You have to bear in mind the direction of the fan.. this one blows air up into bottom of the vents... the nzxt cryo sucks it away deal breaker for me i wanted the cryo however the intake for air is on the bottom if the cooler pulls air away then you have two low pressure zones making both fans work harder and thus fighting for the air nulling the coolers effet or even making the laptop get hotter.

I just Purchased one from www.ncix.com ill post results on my machine and my bros as well once i recieve it.

    Im Running MSI GT627 15.4"
    CPU: p9500 2.53GHz Dual Core
    Ram: 4GB DDR2 800
    GPU: GForce 9800M GS 1Gig DDR 3

Bros Machine Is an ACER something ill look up specs tomorrow

NOTE: By left and right, I am referring to the sides when the cooler is FLIPPED with its bottom facing up.

for those who has the enermax aeolus, would you mind telling me if the fan position could be moved to the leftest bottom (by unscrewing and screwing back the fan to the left bottom corner of the cooler)? If so, would there be enough room for a 88mm fan (80x80x25mm) on the right upper corner?
Also, what power end does the big fan have?

Thank you for helping out. I really need these information to mod an aeolus if i get one.

It can be unscrewed. You "could" move it. But you would have nothing to screw it into. Since the only screw holes for the fan, are in their current position...

...And im not usre the power cable is long enough anyway. :/

If there are a good amunt of vents/fans on the bottom, it willwork very good. ;)
But, note, it will hang off a little bit from the sides, as shown in the pics on the front page. ;)

    Hello,

    nice review!
I want to buy a notebook cooler for my HP Pavilion dv5 1140eg. Will it work with this notebook?
And which cooler do you prefer?

Enermax Aeolus, Zalman ZM-NC2000-BK or the new Lian Li NC-09B

yes, this is a great choice for the dv5. Another member bought the Aeolus and had good results with it. ;)

Never saw the Lian Li NC-09B before. Looks very similar to the Aeolus. Maybe a little smaller fan? not sure. The Zalman is a good choice as well, but I think this would probably do better. :)

Thanks BTW for the good comment. :)

    Yes, it's a 220mm fan and not a 250mm.
The LianLi looks a little bit better in the build quality/design an has an USB-Hub. Also it's 400 x 34 x 337 mm so that a 17" widescreen notebook would fit better.
But on the other side you can't change the fan speed, or switch-off the light.

    Difficult decision :D

This would work for the HP HDX18T right? I was planning on buying the Zalman 2000....
EDIT: I read some reviews on Newegg that this was a bad product because the fans do not spin fast enough? Almost everyone on Newegg says to NOT buy the fan.

I am now looking at a Antec Notebook Cooler 200 and am hoping to get some feedback. All of the reviews for the Antec say it's good for big laptops but I was wondering if anyone here on notebook review had it and could comment?

If the HDX18 has a good amoutn of vents on the bottom, yes.

Yes, i dont know why there are such bad reviews on newegg. Maybe because they use it with laptops with not many vents or fans that blow downward. Not sure. In all my tests it has dont very good. past that of other similar and recommended coolers.  ;)

    Link

I found the rebate info on Newegg originally but it is a channel-wide, manufacturer rebate and Amazon sells it for $35.24 with free shipping, which is cheaper than the $47 after shipping at Newegg.

This thread is really old but the review is excellent written! Very well described. I'm in a need of a cooler and I can't really make up my mind. I have three different coolers to choose from for my notebook and the Enermax Aeolus CP001 is one of them.

Still can't get the Enermax Aeolus in the Uk...

Still, my M17x sucks air into the top vents so all i'd be doing is cooling the RAm and HDD's...

Anyone knows if it can be dismantled ?

Photos in the review show that back and front stands are somehow like sliding into the central meshed part that holds the fan ( see pic below )

There are screws on the bottom if you want to dismantle it.

I have to say that I would recommend this to anyone with a dv6 series laptop. Idle, it drops the processor temperature from 42-45 to 36-39; while doing normal things like web surfing it goes from around 50-53 to 45-48; and while stressing the processor with Orthos for an extended amount of time (2+ hours) it drops it from 95 max to 87 max. I know that still sounds high but consider that these AMD processors are supposedly built to withstand around 100. You cannot beat that kind of drop for $5

I got mine today and I can't say that it does much for an undervolted laptop. The CPU is normal while the GPU lost 2C on load. The HDD is 6C cooler for some reason despite everything else not taking a decent hit down.

EDIT: Nvm, I found out that it only cools decent while plugged into one of the laptops ports. It barely works with a USB wall charger. Now I'm getting an additional 2-3C off on everything.

EDIT: Nvm again, playing games actually raised the temps of my computer with the cooler. As of right now, dissatisfied with this cooler.

I am also very interested in this enermax aeolus cp001 cooler, good job on the review.

Too bad I cant find one on eBay that doesnt have a ridiculous shipping cost to it.

First of all I would like to apologize for my poor English…

    I own a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo xi 2428 NoteBook….

I tried both the COOLER MASTER Note Pal x2 and the ENERMAX Aeolus cooler…

    CONCLUSION!

The COOLER MASTER Note Pal X2 is a great cooler… does an excellent job, but it is very noisy, especially at high fan speed! I just couldn’t stand it :err: ...

On the other hand , ENERMAX Aeolus cooler is so quite that you tend to forget its existence.... Solid construction and top quality materials (that is why it costs more)!!! But when it comes to cooling, it’s a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT… Although the cooler was on high speed, my laptop’s fan started to work on high speed as well, despite the fact that my computer was not in use – just turned on!!!! (….I suppose things would be worse if I was gaming in a hot summer day.) The coolers hand support is completely useless because when typing your hands are supported by the NB itself!!!
Is there Α need to mention that my laptop has a 15,4 inch screen and yet it hung over the rear edge about 1,5 cms (add to that 2 more centimetres which is the frame's width)??? (compatible up to 17” notebooks??? Yeah , right  !)….

This cooler most certainly needs a more powerful fan (650 RPM at low speed is a joke) and the manufacturers should also consider to re-design the unit, since it cools only the center of the NB and leaves out its corners, were the NB’s fan is placed!!! (bigger frame and an extra USB port are necessary...)

I do not really care what the main review says… I listened to my NB and it turned it down

Speeding up the fan on this would make it extremely loud as it is only one massive fan. Also, my exhaust ports are in the center of my notebook. It comes down to finding the right cooler for your notebook, as not every cooler is tapered to every notebook.

Not necessarily… Fan’s motor is very good and extremely silent … They can increase the speed a little bit and re-design the fans blades' angle and distance from each other so they produce much more air pressure…

I agree… Yet, a bigger frame is still needed ! My NB is a 15.4΄΄ and it hangs off the cooler, which the manufacturer claims to be appropriate for NBs up to 17΄΄! This just IS NOT TRUE… In fact NONE OF THE 15.4΄΄ NBs i've tested (about a dozen) sits on the cooler as shownh in the manufacturer's picture in the main review…
