Got my Ipod Touch!!!

I finally got my iPod touch. I am on it right now actually! Its great and I recromend it to anyone who wants a mobile source of Internet.

What about music? Are there some good player apps written for it?

if the ipod touch or the n810 tablet were compatible with the software i need to use, i totally would have gotten one by now......oh well. personally, i think i would go for the nokia due to the pull out qwerty keyboard and larger screen.

 

Man, make a player than can let you play .mkv/.mp4 with soft subs. I mean, is it really hard to have to choose between subtitle streams? Especially on something like the N800 - it just makes sense!

'course, I can understand that .ass may not necessarily work, but then again .mkv files can have the fonts that the specific video it uses within itself. I wish I were a programmer knowledgeable enough to actually make an app. Maybe in the coming years...

I have two 16 GB SDHC cards in my nokia n800 and you can remove the battery. Looking forward to putting two 32 GB cards in it later on.

 

I love my iPod touch here 8GB...and running out of space lol! I do love going on the internet, checking mails...etc without getting my notebook out hehe.

 

Congrats on the new touch. I bought a 16GB one a few months ago and have been loving it ever since. Such a beautiful screen and the touch software is amazingly accurate and responsive. The audio quality is also excelllent. I use the web browser all the time, I never thought I would when I first bought it. I've come to depend on this device a lot.

 

Yeah thats quite true...It become sort of an organiser for me, I use ''notes'' and ''calender'' alot.

 

EDIT: forget it, I'm an idiot and just realized I told safari to accept no cookies to save space, I now realize I need them for AIM.

 

yeah I like the idea of the notes and apps that come with the January software update, but I won't pay for an
icon, when I can do that stuff with a few more clicks in safari. And I won't jailbreak it because it voids warranty. Oh well.

Lol I got my iPhone in July for $600 new.

 

How's that working for you? I've herd some very negative things about the touch. Like the screen gets all smugy after just a few minutes of use. I also herd that the screen is heat sensitive and won't work if you have cold hands. Another review said that it has a lot of speaker hiss. Are these people just apple haters? Or do they have any merrit?

 

Some people should wash their hands more often lol Thats why i dont like others touching my ipod

Its overpriced... for just 8GB u pay too much.

And doesnt even let you download via WiFi.

Thats why i didnt buy it yet.

 

Have both the touch a 605 WiFi Archos. Touch is a better mp3 player the Archos is better doing everything else (Wifi, Internet, videos). Both are fantastic machines. If you don't want to drop the cabbage for a touch the Archos is a very good alternative.

 

yeah, I was considering the Archos but I decided this would be a better choice. And its great I'm on it right now.

someone mentioned AIM. what website do you use? i use meebo.com AIM+MSN with only one login =D.

 

The only negatives I have about it are the occasional software glitches. For example, if you are playing music and going through the albums via CoverFlow and then turn on the screen, when you double-click the Home button to access the quick controls they don't work.

Other than that though the touch technology is amazing, it is unimaginably accurate.

Not true about the cold hands. I've used it outdoors with my cold hands in single-digit temperatures and it has done just fine. I've also used it skiing and even though it got cold, it worked fine.

If by "speaker hiss" you mean interference from the headphone jack, there is none. I have extremely sensitive headphones and good hearing, and there is no interference via the headphone jack. Period.

 

Amazing how the price cut ($350) for the iPhone is more than what I paid for it ($250) .

But for 8 GB paying that much money isnt justified IMO.

Can't even put half of my Music library on 8 GB..

And 32 GB will just blow hole in my pocket..

sometimes when I'm browsing on safari,
every once in a while, it'll go back to the home screen instead of loading the page. But then I press safari and it goes back to it. I'm running 1.1.4 I believe.

Also, I have a question: is there any way to get some home screen apps without Jailbreaking for free?

And another addition to the glitch thing, I guess its planned but I think its a stupid feature: the screen doesn't rotate in keuboard mode.

 

Yeah it happens to me in safari too...odd lol. And yeah its slightly annoying how it doesnt rotate in keyboard mode And about apps...just wait for the bit, since the SDK is out...apps should come along with 2.0 update. *hope*

I'd get an iPhone if I could use it with Verizon. With an iPod touch, you loose that 3-gadgets-in-one thing. (I taped my 2nd gen. iPod nano to my LG VX5300 cell phone). Oh yeah - you could get an Asus EEE PC 2G Surf for $300.

 

another question: on the iTunes wifi store I'm signed in under my dads account bacause I connected it to his PC last, but now I can't find out how to sign in on my iTunes account on my iPod. Can someone help? Thanks in advance.

Yes you can...its called iTunes wifi store...its one of the features of the iphone/ipod touch.

Maybe they are talking about Downloading from a UPnP network or shared network drive? With my Archos I can stream or download directly from my desktop from the shared network drives.

 

I do think that if you can sync your iPod wireless-ly...that would be a really good feature.

You're confusing me. Usually download means acquiring a file over the internet. Syncing refers to copying a file off your computer onto a device.

An iPod touch can download purchased files over wifi and the internet, but you have to plug in to transfer stuff from your computer.

 

you can download stuff onto the ipod touch. but from itunes, you have to buy it. you can jailbreak it for other stuff, but thats a whole other story. and i dont even know if we're allowed to talk about that here.

Thats what i mean... something like torrent or something which allows you to download a file from Safari directly on iPodtouch ... without needing a computer.

I don't think this is possible yet...users aren't suppose to have access to the iPod's file management system. Jailbreaking exploits a flaw and allows access to the fms. Maybe when the SDK is released there will be some legitimate work arounds.

One more question, I want to move around my home screen, is that part of the January Service Update? Can I download the jan. Update on my touch or only through the PC? Thanks again.

From what we've heard, there will be a "small accounting charge" to have the new iPod Touch software that enables third party applications. It'll be free for iPhone as iPhone is subscription-based while iPod Touch isn't.

ahl395, to answer your previous question, yes, moving around icons on the Home Screen are a part of the January Software Upgrade that costs (a ridiculous) $20. You have the option to purchase that when you connect your iPod Touch to the computer.
