Does it work on a bed or a couch?
-
it will help the notebook's vents from not being blocked by those soft surfaces...
but if the fans on the Zalman are block, it might as well just become a nice aluminum notebook stand.
-
Yup you can have it without the fans when on bed or get 2 large text books or one massive one *thank you library for books i dont need and run it on there.
-
I was just wondering, has anyone been brave enough to actually add two more fans to the Zalman NC2000?
-
Im thinking about it. Just hard to get acess to saws and drilss in japan. the way to do it would be to drill out every little gap then use a small saw *forget its name atm( to cut them out, I would personally then add 2 fans and then from there I would force the two stock fans to power from the right usb ports and the other 2 fans to power from the left.
Good luck
you better know some electrical engineering

I was thinking abt buying NC-1000 for my notebook (specs in sig). Has anyone compared the cooling performance of NC-1000 to NC-2000?? I just want as small a cooler as possible, but ofcourse efficient cooling comes first. Should i go for NC2000 instead if it cools better?? Also, there are a number of ppl using dell on nc2000 with good results, but has anyone tried an HP notebook on it. Just wondering if HP has cpu/gpu located at different location than dell, the results might change.
-
"Both models are powered by the same fans which makes the CFM for the NC1000 higher but with less cooling space (less vents) it may not reach all the vents and/or fans on some notebooks. They have a special air flow system making a balanced airflow from the vents."
from my buyers guide.
Since you want what appears to be highly portable and if your ok with over hang then go with the nc2000 as for hp I am not sure. Many HP buyers seem not to use coolers. -
I have a M1530 with a 9 cell battery, so will that extra height at the back of my laptop be at an awkward angle?
-
NO BUT I highly recommend you remove the battery for one reason. The battery adds height to that specific notebook. For best performance have the notebook as close to the cooler as possible. And when using the cooler you would most likly be using it plugged in so no need for the battery.
I am currently working on a little project. Cleaning the Zalman without voiding warranty. I am almost complete and am working with my final method. -
this product does not work well with gateway p series notebooks....to bad though. i really like the look and feel of it.....
-
I think this fits the new 15.6" perfectly... just hope they come out sooner
-
I personally find the screens are getting too wide. Most notebook users are still buisness men who like to read vertically
and for me as a student i find widescreen is ok but wouldnt be able to take much more wider
-
I now have access to a Zalman NC1000 B for testing purposes and will be posting a review ASAP. Aswell as a Comparasion.
Only issue is I am awaiting news from dell if my notebook is repairable or not thus deleying the review and comparasion
-
can you tell us the dimensions for the actual "cooling" area of the nc1000 please?
thanks -
Hi X2P,
Sorry to hear the Bad News about your XPS M1530 ... So, how long have you had it? And what is wrong with it? Just curious ... since XPS M series has been rated so high on NBR for so long!!!
Thanks,
G!
-
Actually I own a Vostro 1500. Bought it in september. I fried the GPU (too heavy overclock even though temps were low), split motherboard (still functions). Notebook is in 4 pieces the screen had 25 stuck pixels.
The day I get it back I will be posting the comparasion the two with a 15 incher and the review of the NC1000 -
X2P,
Will Dell cover you under Warranty ... "OverClocking"!?!?!?
G! -
Techinicall no but they replaced gpu and mobo before i even asked. They are replacing screen under warranty aswell.
The casing is all im paying for and it is rounding out to around 60$ -
X2P,
Talk about "Lucky" ...
Hey since you had the Casing open ... could you tell who is making the "Barebone" system for DELL?
G! -
Sorry. Stopped looking at it after I reformated it to send to dell. Decided I better stop messing with it while they still accept the notebook
-
Where did you guys buy your Zalman NC2000B in the US? I tried checking Amazon and some online dealer, but none of them have it.
-
I belive the cheapest right now (pricegrabber etc) says newegg.com
-
So what is the difference between NC2000 and NC2000B?
-
Actually there is a Zalman NC 2000S and 2000B, the only difference would be the color. S being silver while B is black.
-
This cooler is excellent, the only thing to improve is to have an independent power adapter and not kill the only power USB port,
-
Thanks!
Are you saying that that little tip does the AC/DC conversion? Cool! -
You do know that all Zalman Notebook coolers do have an extra port aswell so you do not lose one.
-
talking more so about the base part of the adapter. the part you plug the usb into. your converting the usb cable in to an ac/dc cable
that tip is for illustration purposes only.... -
Ok, so it has two inputs, one for AC an another one for the USB, am I right?
I was referring to the USB port in the laptop, if oyu use it for the cooler, then you cannot use it for another device. -
x2p is right.. the cooler has 2 extra usb ports for just such an occasion.
-
Ok, so the AC tip is right, the cooler work on DC and it has an internal AC/DC converter. W/R the USB connection, the cooler probably has a DC/DC circuit to meet the cooler's power requirements.
-
sounds good to me...lol
just know that it will work. if you have an ipod/cell phone/pda... it is based on the same thing. can operate on dc and ac power. but because it has an extra usb, you can just use your computer. but for those of us who like to plug into the ac outlet than draw extra power from the computer....this is our solution. -
Exactly!
-
hey, i bought this cooler and should receive it on Monday. I need to get another cooler too for another laptop. I bought this one for hp 14.1 laptop. The thing is the surrounding temperature now since its summer is from 80-90+, can it still cool good in high temperature? I am thinking about getting "NZXT Aluminum Notebook cooler w/ 3 120mm adjustable fans Model CRYO LX" for this laptop and using NC2000 for the other one or my parents since the surrounding temperature is very high, or would this one cool enough?
-
My GF is actually using the smaller NC1000 in a room that hits 104F and sees drops of up to 59F. Hopefully that helps. Sorry I cannot test with my system in the same temps with the larger cooler but my notebook has been out of commission for months
-
Thanks a lot for such a fast reply. That's not good, I guess I will try that and show results in high temps. What did you use to get all of the temps in all your testing?
-
I used HD tune for the HD, Rivatuner for GPU, and RMclock for CPU but go check out cooling central, there is a little section on monitoring temps
-
Hi X2P,
Why not use "HWMonitor 1.10" from CPUID ... it reads all three in one page ... you know CPU, HDD, and GPU and it gives you your Current, Low, and High.
G!
-
personal preference
-
What about 16inch noteboobs? I have an acer 6920. Will this work?
-
It would depend on what the bottom of your notebook looks like. You want to purchase a laptop cooler that will cool where the vents/ports are at on your notebook for best results.
-
Ill get back to you in several hours, I dont have time to find a pic of the bottom of the notebook atm but I will after I get home.
-
Could you do me a favor and post a picture of the bottom of the notebook. Unfortunatly I cannot find a picture of it even in reviews>.<
cheers -
Any deals on this cooler seems to do good
-
Unfourtunatly not as of late
UPDATE AS FOR August 5 2008:
I have added a little house keeping section
Changed the basic colours and tried to tidy it up to make it more user friendly.
I have also edited the NC1000 VS NC2000 section.
I HAVE NOT EDITED ANY OF THE MAJOR CONTENT RELATING TO TEMPERATURESLast edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
I also bought the nc2000 mainly based on this review (which is very informative btw) and just got it today actually. All I can say is that I'm very impressed by the cooling performance, the build quality and everything else. Obviously it's a bit on the more expensive side but worth every penny I think.
-
Good to hear!
-
well after reading tons of reviews and all stuff about coolers, today i ordered Zalman NC-2000S, i will post some pics with my hp dv9000 and some statistics about performance after i'll receceive it
