Has anyone tried this upgrade? Or should I take a chance and pray hard that the 9600m (if it even is) is mxm type 2 ?

Ask Bigspin. He mentioned to check it out, by comparising BIOSes from C90 8600m GT DDR3 with Acer 8600m GT.

So how do we go about upgrading it? Do we need to buy the chip from other countries (I'm in Malaysia)? Can someone explain a bit about how to do it?

If you can even get a hold of a C90S 8600m GT GDDR3...then it might be possible. If you do...please PM me.

I will seriously hope that one of the next gen cards will actually be compatible with our notebook and that they'll fit! :D

    @ Artix

Unfortunately, yes, you would have to get those mxm cards abroad, you could get them online and upgrading it isn't as easy as doing so for the desktop, you may want to pay a visit to www.mxm-upgrade.com for more information.

Yeah, I'm hoping we could fit a next gen card equivalent to the 8600m (should be the 9600m) and hope that it'll be 5920g mxm type 2 compatible

well, I won't be surprised if they keep the 5920G platform as it seems solid, successful and it's got great appeal price and performance wise. with that in mind, I won't be surprised to see if they release a model with a 9600GT...whether they later the layout enough that they mess up our options is to be found. let's all hope! :D

Let's hope so, keeping my fingers crossed for a 9600m GT upgrade, it'd better be a GDDR3 this time though.

I'm pushing my 8600m over the limits, overclocking it to the maximum, btw, to those who do overclock their 8600m, do you experience slight yellow artifacts in areas that are black in colour? I mean, these small boxes of artifacts appear only on black backgrounds, my games don't crash or anything like that.

Does this mean it's time to lower the clock?

^Yes, artifacts are because the card is getting to hot // not capable/stable.

Woah... yeah, well, that' the most feasible way of having a 9 series working well in a laptop. Though mind explaining why the sudden decision to give up on the Acer 5920g?

Cool, more hope for the 9600m GT in Acer 5920g...

Anyway, there's a rumour spreading around in the C90s thread that Nvidia and Asus is planning on a 8800m mxm type 2, doubt it's true, time will tell for sure, but in the mean time, I'm hoping both of them do come true, then we'll compare performances and pick the better to fix it in 5920g

argg..damn..was hoping you'd say differently.. they charge an additional $80 don't they... plus the bank itself will charge more too.

Getting ready to get my hands on a 9600m GT GDDR3 whenever it is available ,by Asus, I'm speculating, to offer support for C90...and the VBIOS? well, I'm hoping the next revision of Acer 5920g or similar models will have a 9600m in it, or if someone would modify the vbios to make it work anyway.

Since my country don't actually import stuff like that, I'd have to rely on online international buying.
