I've updated the hardware undervolting guide with the newer photo.
I've added your software undervolting guide to the first post.

The TME unlocking guide is very good, but you should add ICS9LPRS365BGLF. Quanta uses the Silego on some and the ICS clock generator on others. They are both pin compatible. I've got the ICS version others got the Silego version. The MOD is also applicable on su4100 devices.

Did you apply some of the tweaks or is this with the default installation?
The tweaks that improve battery life the most are setting wireless mode to maximum energy saving and activate all the power saving features in the graphics driver(ePower manager will have to be removed to get full control, else it will overwrite Vista's settings on every reboot).
Read the "Optimizing battery life and undervolting" guides.

I disassembled my 1810t yesterday and checked the keyboard. The model is called ZA5 and a quick google search revealed that Acer Aspire 3935 uses the same keyboard model also.

Is there any RAM tweaking that can be done on a 3GB version?

    Short answer, yes.

You can use SPDtool or thaiphoon burner.
It would be very simmilar to what has been described with the 4gb version.

I'm sure der mali will provide more details for you.

I guess that it uses M4 70T2863EH3-CE6 or M4 70T2864EH3-CE6 as the 1GB module, so M4 70T2864QZ3-CF7 from the Thaiphoon database might work to up it to 800MHz.

    Any 800MHz DDR2 200pin SO-DIMM should work.

Thanks for updating and adding my post.

I have updated TME unlocking guide in my original post. If there is anything else that needs to be corrected please let me know.

I might be doing undervolting and TME unlocking mod next week. Probably Monday or Tuesday. I will let you know if my laptop survives :D

I just want to clarify one more thing. What kind of RAM do you use while overclocking? Are you using unlocked 800MHz Samsung?

Here are the three (red, black and blue) 1366x768 wallpapers that come on Acer Aspire 1410 with factory pre-installed Vista. You can download them here (1.1MB).
In Vista and Win7 they are placed in "C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper" in XP they go to "C:\Windows"

Mine used a hyundai HYNIX stick which was write protected. I swapped it with a samsung stick that I had lying around and was able to follow Der_Mali's instructions to "upgrade" it as well! :)

Hard to believe that swapping a wifi card gives such a huge increase of 1 hour of battery life.

I also think that it won't fit. MMW is full length and HMW half length. This should be the right one(German shop, though):
    http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380163638976&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I think the reason for this phenomenon is a driver incompatibility. I had found a problem with Vista's power saving settings which I described in my undervolting guide. Now I've narrowed it down to the Wifi card. When coming out of standby the card won't switch to power saving until I reactivate it by switching to a different Vista power scheme and back to the scheme where the card is set to maximum power savings.

    thanks
for the response, im getting 3:40 hrs on this with default vista that comes included in the box. i have nothing else tweaked or installed, the 3:40 is from the batterybAR. which has proven to be accurate.

i've only charged it three times but i heard people get 6hrs on theirs when it comes out of the box. should i be worried?

ok, read through the entire thread and there's some great info on here but I have a couple of questions:

    1. how hard is it to remove/replace the keyboard? I too am in the bilingual keyboard boat and definitely want to replace it with a US keyboard from another compatible Acer model... do you just have to pop it out? or do you have to fully disassemble the entire laptop?

    2. what steps are you guys taking to output through HDMI and get the audio to output as well? I'm looking at the Intel video driver program and there's no option for HDMI or audio through HDMI.. does this option become available once I hookup a HDMI cable?

    3. for those of you playing MKVs... what codec are you using? Coreavc? I've never gotten a definitive answer as to what to use that will use the least CPU.. I'm running Win 7 x64 btw.

    thanks!

This is very good info, thanks. I was having the same issue. I had the 30 second delay only after installing the Intel Matrix Storage Manager drivers, although the system would boot fine with the stock Win7 x64 drivers installed. All other drivers were updated from OEM sites just fine. I also did the install with IDE and then tried to switch to AHCI and was unable to boot then too.

Even if you use the Intel Matrix Storage Manager drivers with a single HDD, it is supposed to give improved performance and reduced power consumption:

Not sure how real this is or not though, especially considering the HDD doesn't really consume that much power to begin with.

I wonder what the culprit is. It is clearly within the Matrix Storage Manager drivers. Now I recall that I had the same issue with my Shuttle desktop PC, and had to resort to IDE installation, but so far haven't found anything detrimental. Obviously the biggest advantage is with power consumption, but I wonder how significant the difference really is?

6h on a small 4400mAh battery is a top result and I think that those people did some tweaking. You should do some tweaking too and Im sure your battery life will improve. Start with removing bloatware and the Virus scanner, install Vista service pack and tweak it like I posted in "Optimizing battery life and undervolting".

people who have 5.5-6hrs and just bought this claim to be using it on wifi surfing at max power, and still receiving this (at default) without tweaking

i know its stupid to expect 6hrs but im getting 3hrs40 at default (without adding extras and stuff). Is there something wrong with it? Like do i need to exchange it?

On 1810t with 5600mAh this is reasonable, on 1410 with 4400mAh battery it is not. Have you got some links at hand, where people get this battery life?

It's fairly easy. Just use two credit cards. Put one under some keys to lift the keyboard slightly and use the other card to push in those little plastic noses.

So there is this one guy who claims it and I don't see that he didn't tweak his 1410. I would rather base my assumptions on people from this board. The problem is, that you won't know if something is wrong, if you don't tweak it. If you apply all the tweaks and still get a low battery life, there is a problem. The main culprits are

    1. Wifi power saving mode
    2. GPU power saving mode

If your Wifi card is stuck in maximum performance mode you have instantly 2000mW higher power consumption.

Just to compare, Batterybar charge rates are between 6.6 and 8.2mWh. I'm running now with balanced power (though wifi set to moderate pwr. sav.) and rmclock undervolt 7x/0.875mV. I find this reasonable for normal use, do you agree?

Which side/area of the keyboard do I left up and where are the plastic noses? So what you're saying is I don't have to unscrew anything from underneath the chassis?

    thanks!

The 4 plastic noses are along the back edge of the keyboard behind the function keys. And der_mali is absolutely correct, there are no screws holding the key board in place. I usually start at one side of the keyboard, press the plastic nose in (in my case, I like to use a guitar pick) and lift gently with a credit card positioned under some nearby keys. Be careful that you don't pry so hard that you pop keys off though. As the keyboard is lifted past a plastic nose, I proceed to the next one. After all are done, I gently pry the keyboard up from the middle. Hope this helps.

This is about the same I get when the Wifi card is stuck and refuses to go into power saving mode. When the Wifi card is in power saving mode, the consumption goes down to around 5.5W(brightness 40%, GPU power savings activated, DPST first notch from the left) when idle.

Ah. I KNEW it was 1 of the drivers from acer site. i had to clean install again cuz 1 of the drivers fk'd up the boot time but i didnt know which. now i have only installed the mousepad and vga drivers and nothing else. it boots normally.

question: how worth it are the other drivers? (im definitely not installing the matrix storage thing until they fix it tho)

Alot of people are having trouble with the 5100 dropping connections, whereas they are getting good performance out of the 5300 (which I believe might be partly because the 5300 has more antennas, but I dunno, maybe driver related too).

Anyways, My 5100 is pretty rock solid connectivity-wise. I've never tested the throughput of large files, but it maxes out my internet connection just fine.

Which, unfortunately, leaves the question: which US-available sleeves DO fit?

Is the euro belkin F8N140 (known to work), the same as the American F8N132?

I have this 11.1" sleeve. It fits the 1410 well, but offers little protection and no room for anything else.

This might be related to an AHCI/IDE problem. Go into BIOS and switch the HDD mode.
    Edit:
0x0000007b is the code for that AHCI/IDE problem, not 0x0000007f
Google says that it is a hardware fault.
The question is now: Search for a solution or just exchange it? The latter saves time.

    @der mali
HA! I did both of the hardware mods and survived to tell the story :D God, if only I knew how tiny those SMDs are I would have never even thought about trying ;)
I had a dead Dell laptop mobo laying around that I used to test my soldering skills on. After becoming confident enough I quickly did the mods on my 1410. The whole process (including laptop dissassembly/assembly, finding the right tools, etc) took about 1h.

Here are some photos for the curious ones:
    1. Soldering iron I used.
    2. Type of conductor/wire to connect the SMDs
    3. TME unlocking mod. Before. After.
    4. Undervolting mod. Result
    5. Overclocking with setFSB and CPU-z info

    For OC I used 2x Samsung M4 70T5663EH3-CE6 (667MHz) ( SPD flashed to M4 70T5663QZ3-CF7 (800MHz)).

If i set RMClock to 0.875V and overclock to about 1.6GHz it BSODs (goes up to 1.7GHz or so if i turn off RMClock). So I guess undervolting mod is working?

der mali, I take my hat off to you. Thank you so much for providing all the useful information: SPD flashing, TME unlocking and undervolting mods. Without you it wouldn't be possible :D

Great write-up. So how much does this really help performance-wise? Specifically for games?
