The question is what benefit does the Olympic version provide? Back in the 1810t days, the US Olympic version didn't add anything to the 1810tz, it was just a re-branded version of the 1810tz that cost $35 extra.

I know the Canada and European version had enhancement (su9400, or larger hdd), but increase the price of the laptop, but those enhancements never made it to the US  Instead they just +$35.

The SU9400 was a sweet deal. Quite a few were imported into the US and the bilingual keyboard swapped out. The Olympic 1410T was one of the few models I saw with factory bluetooth. I had to put BT in my Sapphire Blue 1410T.

I guess this thread is pretty much dead but I will ask a few questions to see if it is worth upgrading my 1410-8913

    Can I upgrade the cpu?
Any way to sneak in another hd?

I am running with 4gb of memory and a 32G SSD now. is it worth upgrading at all?

I bought a bluetooth module on ebay (BCM92046NMD) and installed it and it seemed to work but the two pair of headphone I have both failed driver install.

    Any help would be great!

The Core 2 Duo CPU is a BGA mount so it can't be easily changed. I have 4GB in my 1410T w/60 GB HD which I handed down to my son to use as a note taker at school. It works fine for him. My BT module works fine and did not interfere with any headphone performance, so can't help you there.

If your 1410T still does the job for you, I would leave it alone. I would not upgrade the 1410T, as there are some far more powerful 11.6" units that you can get at a steep discount, since Ivy Bridge units are right around the corner. Check out this Dell Inspiron 11z for $299.

It has an I3-330UM, ULV sandy Bridge CPU with HD 3000 graphics on board. That should handle basic graphics and simple games like Sims. It has a 6 cell battery which should give her all-day portability. Intel 6250 WiFi/BT card. Comes with W7 Home Premium and Microsoft Office Starter. The Dell Online Store: Build Your System 1 year Dell Mail-in Depot warranty.

my 1410 runs hot and fan frequently kicks into medium speed and hovers around 60c when watching x264 720p movies. This even though I use video aceleration and cpu hovers only around %10 and I have 18-tray set to keep fan as quiet as possible. I have 18-tray to only kick into medium speed fan when temps exceed 60c and try to hoild cpu temp around 56c. Can I safely increase this to 57c or 58c and so as to keep fan speed at slow and hope temps don't get too high?Primary function of laptop is HTPC and fan noise at medium is distracting when watching movies. Is undervolting a viable option? Laptop is hooked up to my 1366x768 plasma and plugged into UPS and battery is removed from laptop as I keep my laptop stationary.

I plan on doing this over the next few months (when school isn't so demanding) with an nvidia GTX640. While doing some digging about bios whitelisting, I saw this:

Whitelist removal request for Aspire 1410 - USB3.0 card

Basically, if you close some jumpers you get the 1.5v line back. The guy in the above post put a usb 3.0 card in the wwan spot, so it doesn't have just the usb 2.0 lines connected especially if the wifi card works (I would think, can someone comment?). Keep us up to date with how you run the mini HDMI cables, that's one of the things keeping me from doing the project now. Are you going to run a micro hdmi along the left side next to the USB port? GOod luck!

I have a 4GB and a 2GB running - Windows 7 reports 6GB and is all working fine for a day so far.

    This is on a 1410, SU2300 CPU.

Just put a Sandisk Ultra 120GB in my SU2300 1410. Cloned the stock drive with True Image. Definitely runs cooler - not sure about the battery life as I haven't used it much.

That said, is there something I need to set in the BIOS to enable TRIM?

SSD newbie here - only heard about TRIM tonight.

Nope. TRIM is a function of the OS. If you're using Windows 7, it will automatically enable TRIM and disable auto-defrag for the SSD. For linux or other flavors of Windows, I'm not sure what you have to do...

    Hello,

I am in desperate help for a clean install on my 1810TZ (olympic edition)
I checked and found that I have the 12 GB partition on my netbook
When I start the PC and press ALT+F10 to start the recovery program I get the following text:

Edit Windows boot options for : Windows 7
    Path : \windows\system32\winload.exe
    partition 3
    Harddisk : ba2f9728
    /NOEXECUTE = OPTIN

I have an enter option which when I press it starts up windows and an escape option which also starts up windows

What can I do to go into the recovery and reinstall Windows 7

Follow the installing windows 7 guide on the first page of this thread. I did it on a family member's 4810tz and it worked great. Use the key on the bottom of your laptop, or the currently installed OEM key.

I apologize if this has been covered but my searching came up blank: has anyone installed Window 8 on a 1410 with any success? I'll be giving it a shot, curious how deep I'll be trying to find drivers.

An egpu update if anyone's still using this laptop and wants to go that route...I bought a pe4l and pm3n set from ebay and hooked it up. It didn't fit very well so I'll have to eventually trim the ram/wifi cover a bit to make it work, but I threw in an old ATI card I had laying around and it booted and recognized the card! No whitelist like some other people noted, just needed to set the delay switch on the minipcie card to three seconds.

I think I'm going to grab a geforce 660 or 650 when they come out next week and give gaming on this thing a shot!

I also soldered on the wwan slot. It's USB like everyone else said...oh well. I got an azureware usb wifi card from ebay and it works great!

Next up, get someone to install a BGA su9600. I've repeatedly thought about getting a new computer, but the 1830 doesn't seem much better and the v5 11.6 doesn't seem like as good of a egpu candidate due to looking like there's only one wwan slot and it's in a weird spot (that and the battery life hit). That and my 1810tz works really well so far; there's still a lot of life left in these little machines!

I have, and Win8 works great. I didn't need to install any drivers. What's really nice is that shutdown is uber-fast, and bootup is pretty zippy, too. Generally, my little lappy seems a bit faster with Win8 vs. Win7.

Most of the time, I've found that Win7 drivers will work fine with Win8, anyway.

I had the same experience, I was amazed that I didn't need a single driver. The 1410 with 2GB of RAM is running better than it did on Win7, I'm really impressed. Not as impressed with Win8, but I suspect it will grow on me. :)

    Hey guys,

has anyone else had the problem that the 1810 wakes up from sleep mode, i.e. standby, if carried around (in the city etc.) ?
I checked every setting, disabled "can turn on computer from sleep" in the hardware settings of WLAN etc. but it still wakes up. That's not the case if it's on standby at home (?).

Also: The windows 7 power settings don't apply to the wifi card. According to the max battery saving setting, the transmit power should be minimal but it remains maximal as long as the setting in the device manager is set to maximum. windows 7 seems to have no control over that. Is this the case for everyone? BTW you can check the transmit power via the intel software that comes with proset.

It's the keyboard. If your machine is not padded in a carrying case and your chassis is squeezed while on transit it'll often jolt awake. See if the keyboard is loose off the retaining clips.

If you're using ePower manager, it may be overriding any changes you are making to the Wondows 7 power settings. I discovered this when ePower kept shutting down my wireless card, even though I had it set for performance settings on battery. I disabled the program and the Windows 7 settings worked fine.

    Dear thread

Does anyone know where I can get a step by step for replacing the DC power jack on an Acer 1810tz? I sold it to a friend a year ago and he now says it is becoming loose and is having difficulty charging it. Is there any soldering required?

I've not had a look at it yet but am speculating that this is the problem. If anyone has had any similar experiences, feel free to share.

Thanks guys! It turned out that actually it was the buttons of the touchpad that were pressed when carrying the notebook in a special position. So ragefury 32 was a little bit closer to the solution ;)

Btw: Has anyone else the problem of flash 11.x not using the hardware acceleration anymore while 10.x is crashing the system now and again

    Hi,
I've been looking at the 3g mod for my 1410 for a while.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/424930-acer-1410-1810t-1810tz-add-3g-hsdpa-wwan-mod-9.html

Will this card make the mod easier?
Option - Embedded Modules, PCIe MiniCard Half Size – 3G only & 3G+WiFi

It has WiFi, GPS and 3g all in one half-mini-pcie form.

I've read somewhere the original slot might not have usb lines, which might be required for this card, which would be a problem.

Can I just insert this card instead of soldering the slot?

Hey guys, I noticed a Bluetooth driver update in Windows Update today (maybe it's been there a while, says August 2013). Is it worth grabbing? Could it potentially mess things up (I don't see any new driver on Acer's site)?

I've had issues with BT since I bought my 1810T years ago, it always seems to forget my mouse and I need to toggle BT on and off for it to find it again.

It really depends on your definition of 3G - if you install an Intel Wireless/Wimax 6250 to replace the original wireless card, and then get Clear Wireless ($49.99/month) that's pretty much 3G right there. Easy peasy, no need to solder anything.

Yup, I have. Everything worked fine. The only "drawback" I can remember is that you have to use the Win 8 built-in driver for the integrated Intel graphics. Intel did not release their own official Win 8 version - at least at that time. But, it didn't really matter. It ran great. My fresh install was Win 8 on a Vertex 3 SSD. Then I later upgraded in-place to Win 8.1.

    Hi guys.

One slot of memory from my 1810TZ stopped working. I figure it out when I bought one 2GB module and installed it on that slot that it is not working (thinking that the problem was with the 1GB memory module.

I'd like to know if there is someone who happened the same? What you did to solve the problem?

If the problem it is not possible to solve by ourself with some trick or something like that, the laptop supports a single 4GB memory stick? (in this case I would use one memory module in the working slot).

Kind regards and thanks in advance.

@Amsa: just put 1x4GB in the working slot, it should be fine. There's no "easy fix" appart from buying a new mainboard!

@rest: I'm still having problems with flash player 11.x and also 12.x despite the fact that intel announced improvements in 12.x affecting owners of the Intel GMA chipsets - as we are. Still, there's no hardware acceleration meaning youtube videos won't play fluently, not even in 480p with a flash player version newer than 10.3.

Does anyone have the same problem or is it maybe my software installation somehow? Would be awesome if someone could give me a hint or a possible fix :)

Lol, same here - the 1810TZ was in fact my crash-test-dummy for Win10. :p I don't have the 180TZ with me now, but I'll check later for you.

However, what I'd do is check Device Manager to make sure there's no error messages and even if there aren't any, I'd force the system to update the drivers. Have Windows automatically look for the best drivers (online) - with Windows 10, there's almost no need to acquire drivers directly from the third parties anymore... .

My 1810TZ / Win7 was becoming too slow, the "housekeeping" services kept the Netbook busy for the first 20mins after a fresh startup so I was hoping that upgrading to W10 would take care of it. Alas, no such luck. It's simply too old to keep up with today's demands... .

One of the reasons I just replaced it with my HP x360 Ultrabook - big difference. Sorry to say, but while the 1810TZ has served me very well - in no less than three continents / multiple trips, it's now a last-resort backup rig... .
The Netbook is dead... long live the Netbook!

p.s. ... I'm sorry if it's a silly question, but you are using a "classic" SD / SDHC card and NOT an SDXC... right?

What is the difference between your 1810 and my 4810 hardware wise? Mine is very very "snappy" with w10 installed. The only thing I find is edge has no ad blocking and that drags the speed down for browsing.

So I checked, all is well. Please update your Card Reader's drivers. Secondly, I was mistaken regarding SDXCs - the 1810TZ can read them fine (so all that is necessary to read any SD card-type are new drivers, not new HW.).

    Not a clue...
...however it may not only be a question of HW, it may be a question of how much bloatware you removed (or I didn't remove) as well as if you allow Microsoft to act as your Virus / malware / Firewall tool, Search Index, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 1810TZ, given a clean OS install, ZERO bloatware, minimal active housekeeping, add blockers and so on, can still impress. I'm just not up to the challenge and took the easy way out (and bought a new rig ;))

I just got back my 1410T back from my son who inherited my ThinkPad X301. I'll be upgrading to W10 to use as a backup for my Surface 3.

I just did the windows 8 to 10 upgrade. Nothing more. I am typing on my 4810 now. Its very good. Only issue I have is with edge. Zero ad blocking is making life crappy on the net. Hopfully Microsoft fixes that up quickly. My other issue now is my battery life. Getting down there but a new 9 cell battery will fix that right up! ha ha.

Did anyone try to upgrade WiFi card with Intel 7260ac+bluetooth 4.0? I tried and I've experienced a strange behavior, Windows doesn't detect all the networks, sometimes none, and when it finally connects to the ap then it suddenly looses the connection showing no signal and no network. Plus it shows in device manager a bluetooth device (most likely the one embedded) not properly started. I thought it was some incompatibility with the embedded bluetooth module so I tried deactivating bluetooth module (trying with both modules present), but without success.
    Any clue?
