Well I dropped the laptop from the car (0.30m - 0.45m) and the screen went all crazy. Black and white stripes down the middle, and the screen is now duplicated.
I'll get money from my insurance and buy the 3830T (Yes I know I had battery wear problems with the first 3830, but I can't find an alternative).
So time to say goodbye to the 1810 forumFantastic companion. Long battery life and easy to carry...
-
Did the insurance company confiscate your damaged unit? If not, it's not complicated or expensive to have the screen replaced.
-
I'll just get the money for the computer, minus 1.5 years of use. Probably around 50% of the original price I hope. Could be lower though
-
I'm getting ready to try the TME mod. Buying a nicer soldering iron. Are there any videos of this being done? I might try to make a video when I finally get to it, but I'd love to see one so I don't end up taping the destruction and ruin of my beloved sub-notebook.
If I can get some overclocking, I think it will breathe another few years of life into this great machine. -
hi. i need help. i've got acer aspire 1410 with celeron, what kind of memory i should buy for upgrade? thanks

Does anyone have any experience with the ebay 6 cell 5200mah battery?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Battery-Ace..._Batteries&hash=item336b7b264a#ht_2195wt_1139
I'm still kind of iffy on ebay brand batteries. $36 for a 5200mah vs. $75 for a 5600mah from Acer. -
Hello all, Has anyone had any experience with the Seagate Moumentus XT 500gb Hard drive? I've installed them into my wife's and my 1810t's. They work great and are fast. But I having a battery drain when after the computers are completely shutdown. If not used for a week or so they may have lost 50% charge?
-
Hi all.
I got a 1810t since two years.
Now i'd like to upgrade cpu replacing the mainboard with a 1810tz one, which mounts the dual core su4100.
It's possible for you? I read that isn't possible replace the only cpu 'cause it's soldered.
Can someone help me please?
Thanks a lot -

We have an 1810tz-4174 that has served the family well for the past couple years, but sadly the LCD screen just broke and we had already lost some keyboard letters.
I have located a scrapped 1410 that is on sale for parts.
Anyone know if the 1410 screen/keyboard can be used in the 1810? And if so where I can get a picture guide to replacing the screen & keys? -
Skagen,
I'm not 100% sure, but I think you'll be fine. The 1410 and the 1810t are basically the same thing. The keyboard will work for sure.
I'm not too fond of the design of the keyboard. It's really easy to get crap underneath the keys. Does anyone know where I can buy a keyboard protector that's in the US?
Tweggs,
Make sure you are on the latest BIOS. I think one of the updates solved an issue with power drainage when off.
nicebaby,
You can't simply swap CPUs. You will need to find an 1410/1810 motherboard with the SU9600 already in it, or whatever CPU you want to upgrade to.
I'm close to just ordering the 5600mah battery straight from Acer. I hate dealing with sketchy batteries from ebay. The only difference I noticed between the 1810tz battery and the 1410 is that the 1410 battery is 10.8v, and the 1810tz battery is 11.1v Would that be a problem? -
Thanks beemer! I'll check this out
-
I thing that CPU is soldered on mainboard...
How can i replace it? -
-
Ok! thanks!
So i have to find a 1810tz mainboard and replace with mine, right?
I'd like to know if someone have already done this mod...
I got a 1810 service guide where is explained a step by step procedure to disassemble the laptop and replace the mainboard.
I only wonder if the little board with the fan for the CPU is the same in both models of laptop or is different due the different dissipation of the CPUs.
The su3500 has a 5,5W tdp, the su4100 a 10W tdp!!!
Can someone help me about this? -
The Aspire 1810 and 1410 are basically the exact same model, albeit with different processors. I replaced my 1410 motherboard with an 1810t motherboard (SU9600 processor on the new mobo). The cooling solution in both is adequate for any processor/mobo you might have.
Note that the 1830 is NOT the same motherboard configuration... That's a newer model that has different innards.
I didn't use any guide for disassembly - I just took the thing apart, replaced the mobo, and reassembled. It's actually relatively easy to do. You will probably want to have some good thermal paste on hand so you can put a dab of it on the processor before sticking the the heatsink/fan assembly back on.
Good luck! -
-
My 1810t has got an su3500! and my wife's 1810tz has got an su4100! I didn't know about a 1810 model with su9600!!! What about it? Where can i find that mobo?
-
Oops, my bad... SU7300, not the SU9600.
The part number for the mobo with the SU7300 that will work in 1810/1410's is MB.SA106.002.
eBay is your friend! -
There was a 1810t with SU9600, supposedly in Canada.
-
the "p", ";" and "." keys on my keyboard (1410/1810) work intermittently. I've reseated the connecting ribbons multiple times, but it's still hit or miss... Do you think it's the keyboard or the ribbon, or the connector (anyone have experience with this?)
-
-
Perhaps it's only some debris (from cookies or whatever). Try if cleaning the keyboard with a soft brush, combined with a vacuum cleaner does help.

The only thing that I needed to do was to file down some plastic to get a snug fit on my 1410. I used a really small file and took my time and did it in 30 mins. Now it's snug and I'm loving the extra life.
Original battery Acer 1810T UM09E36 UM09E70 UM09E71 | eBay -
How long did it take to ship from China? I'm just kind of iffy on shipping from China to the U.S. If I ever ran into a problem, I'd be screwed, because I'm sure shipping would be atrocious.
Also, what was preventing the battery from fitting snug? -
I have Packard Bell VR46 (same laptop as 1810tz with different brand) and I think its temperatures have become a bit too high (about 60C when surfing) and therefore fan makes a bit noise (I use 1810tray). I would like to take the laptop apart and clean the fan unit and replace the thermal paste, but I'm still under warranty.
My question is that will there be some warranty stickers inside the computer when I take it apart? One solution could be that I just simply send the laptop to warranty repair but I'm pretty sure that they will not do anything for the issue cause it's really not a "big deal" and consequently I will have to wait couple of weeks without my computer. Any tips? -
I'm sure this has been asked before but it is not in the first page and there are lots of post here. so I'm going to ask it again:
What is the maximun memory the 1810 accepts 2x4GB or 2x2GB?
What is the max speed that the 1810 accepts / runs 800 or 1066?
Is battery consumption afected by having more memory / faster memory?
And finally...
Could you recommend a specific 8GB or 4GB memory configuration (Maker, model...)? -
Shipping was 7-10 days. They sent me tracking numbers, etc. It was fine, I didn't worry about it and it came. For what it's worth, I have ordered tons of stuff on eBay from these Chinese outfits (batteries, cell phone parts, etc). What I typically look for is 99%+ positive feedback with lots of entries. If I see that, I will typically make the purchase.
On the fit, there is a bump on the computer on some portion of the battery area and on the battery, there is no corresponding channel to address the bump. Rather than file the bump off of the comptuer, I filed a channel into the battery. Before I filed it away, it fit but was noticably askew and also made the screen closing marginally difficult. After the filed the groove, the fit was perfect and everything was peachy. Like I said, it took me about 20-30 mins. No problems since.
If you do wind up ordering it and want tips on where to file, I can try to help. Just PM me. -
After two years of almost daily use, I still love my Acer Timeline 1810TZ. It's not the fastest on the block but the size, weight and good balance between speed, power and most tasks it has to perform, I'm pleased with this little notebook.
I upgraded to 4 Gigs of ram and installed a Crusial 120 GB solid state disk. Those two upgrades improved the performance. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
But the last few months the notebook started to power down (just like you would force it to holding down the power button) on different occasions without any warning. Sometimes when idle and left alone, and sometimes when I asked it to do some tasks (different types of software).
After talking about it to some people familiar in building computers it seems that it could be a heating issue.
Because I run 1810 Tray (a small tool that controls the fan) I checked the settings. It' is set to 'auto' but if the tools is active, the fan stays off most of the time (and is almost always active if this utility is not installed).
I now run the notebook without the tool installed into memory running in the background and the notebook never powered down since I uninstalled the tool from running in the background. Even when the laptop had to perform more demanding tasks...
Does this sounds familiar to anyone ? -
Take a look to system logs, matbe there is a clue...

greatings!great job!i have a question too..after win 7 clean install,my webcam is not working.acer crystal eye says "camera not found"does anyone ha any solution for this?thanks!
-
Hi,
is your camera shown in device manager? Or are there unknown objects or other problems shown?
I'd expect the camera being supplied by Windows integrated drivers, and if I remember correctly, then Acer only provided configuration software. Since they are sourcing the cameras from multiple manufacturers, you may try all the different softwares offered. Somewhat annoying, imo.
My suggestion: check device manager as described above, in doubt run Windows update and let also search for new drivers.
Next step would be to try webcam-aware software like messengers, skype, whatever and see how it goes.
Michael -
I have the same problem... Webcam just spontaneously stopped working. It's the Chicony model (there's a tool you can download from Acer's support site that will show you what kind of webcam you have). But my cam also isn't recognized in Ubuntu, so I ordered a new one. It's pretty easy to replace:
1. Remove rubber pads from top edge of front of screen
2. Remove screws underneath rubber pads
3. Gently pry screen case apart
4. Detach white USB connector from camera board
5. Remove 2 screws to remove the camera board
6. Reverse process to install new one -

Hello,
my Aspire 1810T-734G32n suddenly developed a problem with the keyboard.
Several buttons are responding with the wrong characters. This happens only with the lower row of keys ie: spacebar becomes c, m becomes ,m and b becomes b# etc.
Rebooting, battery removal doesn't change anything. Its obviously an error in the keyboard itself cause an external keyboard behaves normal.
Anyone faced these troubles before?

Clean the cable contact carefully with a pecil eraser and connect it again. If this doesn't work, buy a new KB in ebay. -
Something isn't right here. My netbook gets extremely hot, so I bought some Tuniq TX-2 thermal paste, took the netbook apart, and put on new paste. The temps aren't that much better.
I'm at around 53C idle, 60C load. My friend who has the same exact model but in Sapphire Blue says that his is always around 30C. On my netbook, accord to BatteryBar, my discharge rate is usually around 12-14,000mW. What is up with that?!
Is there anybody else with this problem?
Also, I am sure this is a side effect of the CPU getting way too hot, but he gets way better battery life than me. For him, Batterybar reports 4 hours for lifetime, and his battery wear is at 9%. Mine always shows 2 hours and 30 minutes for lifetime, and my battery wear is at 8.3%. Why?!?!
Edit: This is starting to get ridiculous. I'm going to try and contact one of Acer's parts suppliers to get a new heatsink. Honestly, I don't think I'll get an Acer again. Their quality isn't a great as I thought it was. -
Is there any way to use a higher -interpolated- resolution for the 1024X (non HD) 1410 model ? (apart from replacing the panel)
Asus & Samsung have interpolation utils for some of their 10" netbooks but they are not generic, model specific only for those netbooks... -
-
With nothing connected to USB ports, screen at half bright, CPU idle for at least 15 seconds and no wifi, bt, headphones neither ethernet the device should have a consumption of 8500 +/- 2000mW
Ensure that you are under those test conditions before measure the battery discharge. -
If anyone's interested, I've been messing around with hexxeh's Chromium Lime booted off of my SD card. Chromium OS builds by Hexxeh. Pretty interesting on my 1410.

hardware mod possible ? -
hey everyone,
after installing the newest realtek sound drivers I experience a weird static noise coming from the integrated speakers. Even after deactivating the device in the device manager, this noise stays the same. Only solution is to click the mute button in the sound manager...
Is anyone else having this problem or even has a solution for it? ( I don't want to go back to windows 7 stock drivers because there's no EQ) -
Does anyone know where I can get a zif ribbon for the hard drive? I think I damaged mine (I know the drive is ok).
My computer sees the drive only about 1/2 the time, and when it does see the drive, it's not bootable. -
Does anyone success use the secondary mPCIe (soldered back the missing adapter) for eGPU? i tested plug in WIFI card, it work, but not sure about other mPCIe card. Anyone can help or advise?

FOR ACER LAPTOPS
(worked on my Windows 7)
A solution to the GREEN VOLUME BAR INDICATOR problem:
The solution is the "LAUNCH MANAGER".
Reinstall or enable this function and your volume indicator should pop out when you turn the volume dial.
You can use the ACER eRecovery Management, then select the "Reinstall applications/drivers", "Contents", and from here just follow it step by step, but be sure to select only the driver for the LAUNCH MANANGER to avoid accidentally reformating your system....... -
Hello all,
I have a AS1810TZ (olypic edition) that is getting old.
as I have been very happy with it so far (screensize, weight) I looked for an alternative or to see if I could find similar
It seems that aspire timelink no longer holds 11,6" model :-(
Anyway know a good alternative for my AS1810TZ ? -
I have no idea why Acer discontinued its Timeline 1830 series. Bad decision.
An expensive alternative is the Asus U24E. Amazon.com: 11.6" I7-2620M 500GB 4GB: Computers & Accessories Another is
Amazon.com: Samsung Series 3 NP350U2B-A01 12.5-Inch Laptop: Electronics . Both have full powered Sandy Bridge CPUs and HD 3000 integrated graphics. Another option is a Latitude 6220 from the Dell Outlet. Dell Factory Outlet You can get the price down if you wait for an outlet coupon.
A less expensive alternative is the Samsung 11.6" Princeton notebook. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Serie...6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1330781854&sr=1-6 These have low powered I3 Sandy Bridge CPUs. I got one for my daughter on great sale at Staples for $350. Love the matt display. Unit is very portable and probably has a better display than your Acer.
If you don't need that much power, the HP DM1 AMD E450 Fusion is about the same price as my 1410T was when I bought it. Best deal & coupon for Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E420s and E420 14-inch laptop with 2nd gen Intel Core i3, i5 - LogicBUY Also comes in a low powered I3 version.
