I solved that problem by installing win xp on recovery partition and runing typhoon burner from there.

I've just ordered a Gateway EC1435u which is apparently the same thing as the Acer 1410-2285 but with a different shell/case.

Can I install a bluetooth module with the gateway? (the internal, 5-pin [?] kind)

If so, where can I buy one from that will work?

To me, you might have different needs, a simple USB 2.0 bluetooth dongle worked fine for me.

Perhaps in a near future we will change our current WIFI card for this one from Ralink that includes WIFI n and Bluetooth 3.0.

This would have two advantages: to get Bluetooth without dismanteling the laptop neither using an USB port and to have the latest Bluetooth 3.0 technology.

Bluetooth 3.0 can use WIFI hardware for fast data transfers while maintaining compatibility with previous BT devices. And due to this, it should go always in the same module that the WIFI radio.

My question is for someone that have dismateled the 1810 before: Is there in the porcess any guarranty sticker that have to be removed?

Sorry for my english and if my questions are stupid:
Right now, the only way of overclocking is the hardware mod, this will be for ever because is a hardware limitation of de G45 or, as it is a new chipset, maybe in the future some softwares may unlock the overclock?
If the cpu cant be overclocked, is it possible or will it be, to overclock de 4500 mhd?

I checked out a 1410 at Fry's, and everything seemed fine on the 1410 except for the keyboard. I noticed quite a bit of flex. I did a search for "keyboard" and "flex", and did not find any good info. Are there any tweaks to fix the flex, or did I just happen to find a display model with bad flex?

There are no stupid questions and your English is fine for me :)

The MOD is needed to unlock the clock generator. This is no limitation of the chipset as the clock generator is a separate part. The manufacturer decides if he wants to allow software overclocking and Acer decided not to. There was a trick in SetFSB to allow overclocking without unlocking on a different clock generator, but something like this on our clock generators is unlikely to happen.

I tried to find a way to overclock the GPU by hacking registers with RW-Everything but nothing worked. There is an obscure HD-Turbo function implemented in the GPU that increases the clock to 533MHz, but I don't have a clue how to access this function and I don't know if this would work with games or is limited to blue ray decoding.

When rising the FSB after applying the MOD, both CPU and GPU are overclocked, thus the remarkable performance increase in games.

    @folsom
My 1810t's keyboard has no flex at all.

Mine have a bit o flex, too. Not that much to worry about, but enough to made me do some research. Seems that many of the 1410 model have this small inconvenience. Can be fixed by removing the keyboard and straighten the metal underneath. Sorry for my english. Good luck !

    Mine had some flex too...
This was one of the reasons why I hesited a long before buying the TZ.

You just have to remove the keyboard (be careful with the 2 pieces of plastic behind the battery) and bent it.
Like this the keyboard will be flat as it has to be when you will clip it back.

No more bump or flex for me!

I have the su4100, anyone tried to get less than 1.2 ghz (knowing there is speedstep)?

    Hy all,

I bought this module on e-bay for my 1810TZ. Very good seller, carefully wrapped and module works perfectly. Followed the enclosed installation guide and downloaded the broadcomm driver from acer.be for Win 7 home premium.

You can't go deeper than 1,2GHz, it lacks the dinamic front side buffer speed adjust, which takes care of going as low as 800MHz in the SU3500.

Yep I was wrong in my previous post...
the su4100 does'nt have speedstep that's why I was wondering how I can reduce cpu consumption...
Lowest values with rmclock are 6 X 0.9V...
so this mean there is nothing to tweak to have better results on batterylife except on windows power management?
In bios also there's nothing (3120)
    Any suggestions?
So far I am pretty happy with the battery life (around 5h wtih around 10w/h), but I try get more juice when I playing videos (h264 with dxva activated, screen level 3).

Yes, it has speedstep and can switch between 6x and 6.5x, it just doesn't have that other thingy which cuts FSB in half.

    @mario_superstar
Wifi max power saving mode and Intel graphics processor power saving features save the most. Just fiddle around with it a bit and check idle power consumption.

    Thanks for the answers guys!

ok I will do with it, too late now. I couldn't wait more for the su7300 to be released in france...and so far the 1810T is not yet listed and this mean that it will be available by the end of december...

I started looking for this machine since last june and I was almost about to buy the su3500 version this august in bankok but step back because of the thai keyboard.

    @der_mali
Do I have to tweak the graphics on rmclock? same for wifi or only on windows settings?

    ok all set!
I don't think I will get more power efficiency as windows was already at the minimum performance setting in saving mode.
I just set the intel graphics acceleration to the minimum like u said.

I was wondering also if there are some tweaks about the blacklit screen?
Is there some little watts to save too?
How can we get more vivid color from it without putting brightness to maximum?

It's not an acceleration setting, it's the setting to automatically reduce brightness and increase contrast. I found it very stressing for the eyes so personally I set it like in that screenshot. I don't know any settings that could improve colors.

    thanks (wrong again ;-))
So I think I have the best settings now...
I read your post about the "Hardware based CPU undervolting MOD" on the Su3500.
It seems the su7300 work also at 0.875V.
As the su4100 have the same architecture, do you think it's possible to get 6.5 at 0.875V pstate?
Really not sure it will work and for what gain...just wondering...

I've checked the drivers. They resemble the Vista drivers and perform like them. So they are useless for Source games. Unfortunately the power saving settings can't be adjusted individually any more. My 3D Mark 03 score is 2097(Vista drivers score is 2111).

I didn't select "On battery" so I didn't see that DPST slider. I suppose that the other features(smart memory, standby) are on by default.

    Edit:
Interesting, it seems that power saving has improved a bit when selecting max battery life in the control panel. Before it was around 5.5W and now it's around 5.2W when idle.

I have to be honest, i didnt see any difference at all :)

When i opened the Control Panel for the first time the default setting was "Balance"
I decided to sacrifice some of the "GPU" power to save some battery but i`m still seeing the same results.
I guess i should try with the bar all the way to "Maximum Battery" side

Sometimes i catch my HDD led flashing even though i`m running idle. Why is that? I mean, HDD flashing means HDD is being accessed , thing is what for!

Just updated my Intel drivers with this one and now my TFT signal over VGA is messed up after updating when I enter Win7. It is completely magenta colored. When I logout or reboot or go suspend, for a second the picture is normally. It seems it just goes bad when Windows loads the Intel tool. Any suggestions I have a Acer 1810tz with Win7 64bit. My WEI also went down from 3,1 to 3,0 btw.

Maybe someone can test it too connecting over VGA a monitor if Im not the only one with this issue?

It's the color setting for the external displays that is messed up. Start the Intel control panel and hit the restore defaults button when you've selected the external display. I had the same issue with my HDMI ouptut to my TV.

I also get the distorted image when coming out of standby mode, so I suggest to steer clear from this driver until they fix the issues they have with the driver.

    Hi all,

I have noticed that we only need to open a little bit the bottom part of the case, by removing some screws near the part where the BT goes. No need to disassembly hard disk, touchpad or keyboard, just to have a precission clip (sorry for my english) and, after retiring the screws, open carefully the case with some help. Then pull off the white film on the carrier to access the adhesive film and place there the BT module, previously connected to the cable. After that we only need to be patient inserting the other end of the cable into the 5-pin plug located on the motherboard with the precission clip. The only left to be done is to allocate the cable inside the case and close with the screws.

Doing this, I only needed to retire 7 screws from the back of the case, and the 2 screws belonging to the hard disk cover, nothing else.

Now I have my bluetooth module working properly without risk of damaging the computer.

    Ivan

You should buy PC2-6400 SODIMM. You can check your current configuration with CPU-Z. It's best to have two modules with the same size in both slots for full dual channel. Other configurations will work without problem, though.

Something that could have been brought to my attention yesterday!

Seriously. I did this yesterday. And it was a to take out all those screws. They were REALLY in there tight.

Regardless, that assembly guide was awesome and bluetooth works like a charm!

Apparently you will need the 15.16.2.1986 driver or later for support of Hardware video decoding of H.264 content in Flash Player 10.1.

Nice to see that the Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset will support hardware video decoding of H.264 in Flash Player 10.1!

Edit: I ran some tests using this clip with Flash Player 10.1 and the 1986 driver installed. No stutters in 1080p mode not even when running it in 1920x1080 on my TV. CPU utilisation was around 40-60%. When I disabled the HW acceleration in the Flash Player and reloaded the page my 1810TZ used around 90-100 % of CPU utilisation and with temporary freezes. So all thumbs up to the new Flash player even though some streaming video sites does not seem to support 10.1 yet.
