In my infinite wisdom I wiped my laptop's hard drive clean. I did do a full back up of the PQSERVICE drive (minus the exact partition information) and thought that I would be able to restore it by just remaking a partition afterwards and throwing the files back inside. However, the restore disks won't recognize the partition because (I assume) I've changed it...
So could someone here with an Acer Aspire 4810TZ maybe copy their default partition table for me so that I could try restore it that way? Or does anyone here have any other bright ideas. Thanks for your help.

Install Windows 7 and you won't need that recovery partition. Also with retail version of 7 around the corner your vista recovery partition will become useless anyway.

I got it actually. It took a lot of tinkering. In case this information helps anyone I can explain what I did:
1. Using another Vista DVD I loaded into the recovery console.
2. I erased all the partition structure (that I'd changed).
3. I created one partition of 10000MB and then another partition with the rest of the drive.
4. I formatted the first partition as fat32 and the second as ntfs.
5. I installed Windows Vista on the second partition.
6. I copied all the files on my backup DVDs back into the first partition.
7. Then I loaded up with the original restore CDs.
At first I kept trying to hide the partition again before using the restore DVDs but that kept removing the volume label and messing with the restore DVD. Then I finally thought that maybe it didn't need to be hidden (the original way it was) and it worked.
The reason I want to get the original system back is to extract a Vista DVD out of it so that I can just reinstall Vista entirely without all the crap that Acer puts on by default. At first I thought I could extract it from the hidden partition's folders, but then I realized I needed the full system (hence my original goal of restoring it).
I actually don't even know if I'll stick with Vista. I'm going to try Vista without all the stuff and see if I like the speed. I'm also going to try XP, but using that depends on whether all the battery life extending drivers work well with XP. (Using XP might be a little zippier, but it would be pointless if the battery life dropped to 5 hours or so.) I'll try Windows 7 when it comes out, but until then I gotta have something that works well.
Anyway I guess this thread is no longer necessary. Have a good one.
