Hi there!
I have a newly installed program that requires OpenGL 2.0 on my Acer 5580 laptop in order to run key features. I've searched all over the internet for a solution to no avail.
Where can I find the driver upgrade?![]()
Additional Specs:
Intel 945gm graphics card with intel 950 media accelerator
Windows XP SP3
DirectX 9c
Thanks in advance

Hi, welcome to NBR.
I'm sorry but as far as I could find out, the drivers for 945GM only support OpenGL 1.5.
From http://downloadcenter.intel.com/
Release notes for the latest driver.
Driver download.
If you want to go to http://downloadcenter.intel.com/ and do a little research yourself. By the way Intel added OpenGL 2.0 support for GM965(x3100&4500) just now and I think it doesn't even work. -
Thank you for the reply! I wish the news was a little better, though. I've already downloaded the driver you linked, but it didn't help the program.
Aside from purchasing a new laptop just to get openGL 2.0 capability, is there another workaround or upgrade possible?
Thanks in advance,
-Chris -
In my opinion - no. I don't see how unless Intel develop new drivers or you upgrade your videocard...which is not possible. You cannot upgrade your chipset/videocard. -
I was afraid of that.
$900 for a program upgrade just to spend $1800 for compatable hardwareI really should have read the fine print on the system requirements. I was unaware of the OpenGL requirement.
...cursed soldered graphics chip padlocked to the motherboard.
Thanks again for the reply. -Chris -
No problem, I wish I had better news though..
