    Yes,that is what I mean...

But,if you remove the mesh,I suppose that you will have to clear the inside from dust more frequently...

Definitely one of the best... ;)

I recommend Arctic Ceramique, because it has very little differene in performance,it is cheaper, and it's not conductive in comparison to the Arctic Silver 5.

I persuaded my gf to buy the Acer 5920G because it was the cheapest laptop (roughly US$1100) that had a respectable graphics card. It was IMPOSSIBLE looking for reliable benchmarks for this model so I ran the FEAR benchmark and the results are FINALLY in:

Acer Aspire 5920G 8600M GT FEAR Benchmarks
    Specs:
    T7300 2.0GHz
    MXM Type-II Nvidia 8600M GT 1024MB Turbocached (256MB dedicated)
    http://www.mxm-upgrade.com/index.html
    Stock drivers, stock clockspeeds
    2GB DDR2 667 Ram Dual Channel (1GB x 2) originally 1 x 1GB but switched to 2GB of Corsairs(Mine!)
    160GB 5400RPM HDD
Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit)

    Settings:
Everything maxed w/o AA and Soft Shadows
    1280 x 800 (hacked for native resolution)

Btw, for those who are looking for comparisons ( I know I was due to the fact that I was looking for a replacement for my Dell E1705/9400 but COULDN'T find ANY(real-world gaming benchmarks for Acer 5920G 8600GT)!!!) between the Dell go 7900gs and the Acer 8600GT , here are the FEAR benchmarks:

    Specs:
    T7200 2.0GHz
    Nvidia Go 7900 GS 256MB
1GB DDR2 667 RAM x1 single channel (gave the 2GB to my gf and took her single 1GB module :p ) VISTA SERIOUSLY NEEDS AT LEAST 2GB OF RAM!
    160GB 5400RPM HDD
    Stock drivers, stock clockspeeds
    Windows XP Pro SP2

    Settings:
Same as above Acer 5920G benchmark settings

Note: For the go 7900gs owners, the fps are higher with 2GB dual-channel ram. I remember at least getting 0% between 25fps and 40fps. Take my word for it.

    Acer 5920 UK

I'm a proud owner of this new Acer 5920 for almost a week now, in the UK its selling for £800. I wos lucky to get one reserved when ordering mine cos they were selling really fast, I think within getting hold of 20 of these machines they sold out and they are getting new stock in.

When I first opened the box and got hold of this notebook, my initial impression wos great! the machine looked gorgeous and felt solid from the outside.

No, it wosn't perfect, it had the mouse click when you applied pressure on the lid when its closed.

Upon openning it, again the presentation of the beige interior design and colours really impressed me, i think its one of those you either like it or you don't when it comes to the design, and I can say I absolutly love the design thats been put into this, the keypad feels solid and has a gripy feel to them, the touchpad feels plastic and the pad buttons are i bit too loud, overal the touch pad could have been improved but its usable.

There are touch sensitive keys on the right side of the keypad which are pretty cool, but the record button went off a few times by accident while i've been playing around with the notebook.

Overal design is impressive, i'd say compared to other laptops it looks unique.

The screen looks great and the native resolution is fine i think for laptops this size. The border around the lcd screen near the right lower side felt kinda loose like it wosn't stuck properly on mine. The screen colour and brightness looks fantastic for indoors, not sure about outside but if theres too much reflection then it does get a bit irritating.

The sound is absolutely amazing for a laptop. I feel I should make a bigger deal about it but no complaints there at all.

Playing around with it, the flaws are totally invisable to me now as its better to use a mouse than the touchpad, you learn to avoid the touch sensitive keys on the right.

The single USB port too close to the DVD drive is the most over-hyped problem mentioned in reviews, it is fine if you have the right sized USB connectors for it, if you dont then just plug it in on the otherside simple as that.
I think its great that you can plug in a mouse for left or right handed people.

Vista runs very fast on this laptop, while it may be better to put Xp in for games, it will be a little difficult to install Xp to dualboot with the Vista already in, difficult but not impposible. The harddisk is split into 2 drives, around 70GB each.
Theres a SD card slot at the front of the laptop.
No Bluetooth but don't use it anyway.

It did have to much junk and ACER software installed but removing them is easy to get the extra boot up speed.

I did notice READYBOOST does work for this laptop, it somehow disabled by itself or by accident and I notice the notebook taking longer to load from the harddrive, after renabling it however, the speed went right up, very noticable.
I've even notice READYBOOST working for internet surfing, the harddrive basically powered down and any pages being loaded were getting cached into READYBOOST. That really impressed me.

Now the graphics card and performance for this laptop is very good, I've try a variety of 3D games on it and with tweaking, all ran at amazing speeds. Only problem is most have compatablity problems under Vista.
With the extreme special effects turned off this card handles games at amazing speeds, I've noticed the Anti-aliasing, and Shader effects have a huge performance hit on this card compared to my desktop's Radeoen X1950Pro running on a P4 so if you want speed in games its best to leave these settings off, It may change when new drivers get released but right now under Vista it is prematurely slow with these effects.

This is a very fast laptop, a long with the design its an amazing piece of hardware for the price its going for.

On general computing tasks i think you can just leave the cpu speed throttle to lowest setting and enjoy the nearly silent computing, it is very quiet compared to all the laptops I have seen, i've seen and used over 10 different laptops as family and friends all consult me reguarding computers. and have access to 5 computers in my house.

Offcourse tho if you are going to be playing a lot of CPU + GPU intensive games then this laptop will get pretty hot and loud as the cooling fan will speed up, I've had a session where the CPU temp went up to 75 degrees celisus, it probably goes higher but i don't plan to push it to the extreme lol. If you are planing to play a lot of games then it would probably wise to invest in some cooling, I plan to get a cooler just to keep this laptop going for a long time.
At lowest CPU throttle the temps stays at around 40 degrees using 0.876 volts powering up the fan every so often.
At maximum CPU throttle you're looking at around 55 degrees idle and constant fan cooling.

I'm not sure about the type of memory thats on my graphics card but Rivatuner says DDR3.

The wireless connection is very solid on this laptop.

This laptop gives great piece of mind and it will probably replace my ageing desktop for most duties.

Can't wait to see what Compiz Fusion will be like on this machine :)

    >Rivatuner says DDR3

There are TWO versions of the 8600m GT card, as stated on nvidia's website ("Designed for high-speed GDDR3 & cost-competitive DDR2 memory"). What the UK model may have, the USA model may not, and vise versa. It wouldn't surprise me if some 5920's had DDR2, and others had GDDR3.

*If in fact it is DDR2, and Rivatuner is reporting GDDR3, then Rivatuner has a bug... Unless the 8600m's turbo cache or something else is somehow fooling it.

www.laptopsdirect.co.uk, i ordered remote and digital tv with it as extras, no extra CDs cept for Vista upgrade disc, battery lasts ages in normal use which is good should i ever need it on the go or power outages, tho i keep mine out and just use the power supply. No HD-DVD, this is fine as i'd rather wait till they drop in price then upgrade later, so HDMI will be usefull when its more mainstream.

About the ddr3, i probably figured it wos probably ddr2 but i couldnt get it detected from pc wizard so that why i said im not sure.

Well, my gf's 5920G was pretty straightforward, the box contained the laptop, some cds (no recovery discs though) and manuals. Received an acer bag too, but that was given free by the shop though.

Anybody willing to try out at least 3GB of ram with the Acer 5920G? Maybe we could see some benefits like what the Asus G1S is getting(big increase in frame rates in games). http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=125246&page=38

I have a memory stick of 2MB. The salesperson at Best Buy said i could add another 2GB of system ram with it, bringing i to 4GB. He called it "ready boost". I supose i could try it, and run another benchmark... If this it what you mean?

It has to be internal RAM (not a usb pendrive nor a memory card which is what they call readyboost). With an existing 2GB of RAM, it has been proven to actually slow things down with an external memory device. So u need at least 3GB of system RAM.

Im not quite sure about this myself. Some people say that the santa rosa platform CAN'T run a RAM with DDR2 800 speeds whereas Ive read that a system would perform better if the RAM's speed was in sync with the FSB. So wouldn't an 800MHz FSB CPU/Motherboard perform better with a DDR2 800 ram? Do desktops with the 965 chipset have to overclock or something to get 800MHz from their DDR2 800 RAM? Someone please enlighten us on this....

With 2Gb System Memory Readyboost is just a wast of money
But It help Very Memory hungry Games. We know apps never request 2gb system memory but games need it. :D

It grows on you...after...a...while... :p But trust me, its not that bad. Just imagine a car dashboard trying to look gadgety and neat(illuminated touch buttons and whatnot). Most people will give it a second look because of its uncommon design. Its cheeeeeeeeaaap...unless u want the G1S which isnt, or the new Dell laptops (8600GT) which is downright fugly with no thought being put in its design whatsoever.

This note book is the best bang for the buck!!!

The only thing driving me crazy though with it!!!!!! Is that my large hands keep hitting those blue lit cd/dvd drive touch keys making those "beeping" noises, and then the software starts!!

Please... Is there anyway to turn those right sided cd/dvd touch controls off.

    Thanks..

    hey geauxtigers,

The only other place i have seen this model (1.5ghz) being sold, is at microcenter.. Not sure if there is one of those around you... Anyways, there more money over there. They weird thing is that microcenter has the hard drive listed at 4,200rpm. Not sure if that is a typo or not, but i checked my Best Buy bought 5920G, and the hard drive in it is a 5,400rpm Hitatchi (i ran the model number of it on the internet).

    Microcenter's price is higher at $1,499.99;

i thought this was more to do with the cost of memory at the minute, the cost of 667ddr is very cheap compared to 800ddr

It's got nothing to do with the costs. Santa Rosa does not support DDR2 800 and this even though this has been stated many times before you can still read "the memory runs at 667MHz and not the full 800MHz supported by the motherboard" (from this infamous cnet review of 5920G- what a bunch of... pros :D )

The 5920 is hitting comet in a few days which is cool. I'm hoping they'll sell a variation of the one which is selling a laptopsdirect.co.uk. Hopefully it will either have a HD ROM or a TV Tuner built in. There is also talk of it selling at Tesco which will mean that its sure to be less than £800.

Anyway, some pictures of seen on the net show slightly different colours of the interior - some are nearly white and some complete beige. I'm gonna have to see it in person before I buy it.

For specs, it has everything I need and all reviews on the internet (even the crappy Cnet one) say it has fast performance.

well... My 5920G looks to be a very light medium grey to me. It is definantly not beige, and not off white either. Despite the review comments, the inside color actually grows on you. It's a great notebook at a reasonable cost.

Does anyone know how I can get the touch sensitive cd burning software to open Nero instead? There are no options?

Whilst we're at that, how about making the internet and email keys open programs other than internet explorer and Windows Mail.

Does anyone know if the 5920G comes loaded with 2 1GB Ram sticks or 1 2GB Ram stick.

I hope it is the latter, because I really don't want to have to buy 4GB more to upgrade my RAM.

And yeah, I know I screwed up my username. Don't laugh. >_>

    Comes with 1GB + 1GB.

There's only "two" slots. You'd have to kick out $$$$$ for "2", 2GB sticks to get the 4GB max.

Ugh, that is what I was fearing.

Oh well, I got extra money because this laptop was so cheap.

Should come out to around 200 USD to upgrade to 4GB then...

Is it worth it? Because Vista's built in experience index tells me the memory is what is bottlenecking my system at 4.5 Lowest Score.

And as soon as you guys find out how to change what programs the internet, mail, and record buttons open, be sure to post it here!

    Start, All Programs, and then
Launch Manager to start the application.

Well, I finally bought my FIRST laptop, Acer 5920G. I bought this laptop on last Monday @ Best Buy.
After buying the laptop, First thing i wanted to test out was the Graphic card. So, I install WoW on it and fire it up. Everything is running very smooth on full settings. But the problem starts.

After hour and half of playing, I notice the top-left corner of the machine is very hot, so I am guessing the card is probably there and so is the fan that shoots out the heat. But in that same time, I see a black screen on my screen for about 1 second, and I see Vista in the next second. The game was tabbed out and I saw a glimpse of an error that was displayed on the screen. It was something alone the line "Graphic Card Stopped Responding". It didn't exactly say that but I didnt get time to read the error because I was tabbed back into WoW since the graphic card started working again. By the time I try to read the messege again by tabbing out, it wasn't there.

Also, When the heat takes on by playing a game, the soundcard seems to react. After playing for hour or two, the sound seems to crackle a little with the great sound it gives. This crackle also appears when you are listening to MP3 or any sound and you try to change the brightness of the screen. Everytime i increase or decrease the brightness while listening to sound, I hear some disturbance.

The good news is, it passed all the benchmark tests from prime95. I ran prime95 for about 30 hours. The laptop was heated to the core but it survived the tests.

If no one else has the problems I listed, It maybe just my machine, but if someone else has this problem, please report it here so that I can be at ease and know that it is a flow in the design.
