Mine is 302G20N.It has T7300 (2.0GHz) cpu,200gb hdd,bluetooth and intel wifi card.Only thing is missing,is Intel Turbo Memory.I bought it for 1250euro.
I don't think 802.11n really makes sense..802.11g is ok.
Ofcourse the higher cpu speed would increase heat, but generally the laptop does not have any heat issues. You can search and find many posts mentioning temperatures.
As for the thermal paste, don't know if it voids warranty..But I don't really think it would cause any problems as long as you are careful when disassembling the laptop.Al
You could lower your temps a little,by removing thermal pads and applying thermal paste.

lower the heat issue with a cooling pad they work.

Mine is Aspire 5920G-302G16

Well I've ordered the 5920 and waiting for it to arrive. But I need to now if this laptop is going to run halo 2 en shadowrun well?? (if someone has them to, would they please test it for me.)
Thanks in advance. -
I can help you with halo 2.
It does NOT run at all well with the stock drivers. The best drivers I have used so far are 162.18 from laptopvideo2go and they give the largest performance increase. They especially help if you like to go crazy with the Full Screen Anti Aliasing in your games. For instance, with stock drivers, and other drivers apart from 162.18, turning on Full Screen AA in Tomb Raider Legend cause stuttering frame rates and dificulty controlling the action on the screen. 162.18 allows Full Screen AA with little impact on performance apart from better visuals.
In Sims 2, loading time decreases, and the AA option is enabled through the use of non stock drivers.
Anyway, back to Halo 2. The game suffers extensively from texture corruption. Textures are missing, or flickering especially on the main screen and during cut-scenes.Installing 162.18 drivers eradicated flickering textures, major screen tearing issues, gave me a playable frame rate, and gives you a screen resolution option of 1280x720. Without this driver, the best I could get with stock drivers, was 1024x768.
So in all, Halo 2 is a demanding game on the system, but its very playable. However it is a very poor port, worse than Halo 1 port, which wasn't perfect itself. -
K thanks, but can you give an FPS value for halo 2 (average). My pc runs it too, but sometimes with terrible FPS drops. Does the 5920 run it without those FPS drops?
Thanks in advance.
(and would this laptop run the DX10 version of lost planet at a playable FPS?) -
Wrong place to reply to sorry
-
hi,
how would i go about recording the FPS in Halo?
Im downloading the Lost PLanet DX10 demo now. So i'll let you know how I get on.
Digital Vibrance does exist. Its a slider option. Never liked that option though. It seems to cause eyeball burn.
-
Forget Lost Planet..I tried it..Gives about 5fps at dx10 mode... -
Getting FPS in halo 2 is by itself not possible, you will need to download and install fraps. that is an screen recording program that shows the fps on your screen. (and the dx9 version of lost planet?)
ps: will this laptop play games better than my desktop (7600GS AGP8X) -
,So Forget it

Are you sure Bigspin?
I ran the performance Test Demo with default settings on 1280x720 resolution, some settings on high (such as motion blur...I think) and others on default low (shadows) and I got 16 FSP on "Snow" and 22 FPS on Cave.
With actual gameplay, the game warned me to reduce my settings, so I changed some values at high to low, and left all those at medium whilst some others remained at high. Anisotropic texture filtering causes a huge performance hit, so I reduced it to trilinear.
With actual gameplay outside with snow blizzards I was averaging 14-22 FPS until some massive spider filled the screen, then I got FPS of about 10 temporarily. With indoor FPS 22+. Not amazing but certainly playable
I couldn't tell whether the poor gameplay performance was down to the motion blur, or control sensitivity. The controls are more suited to a controller than mouse and keyboard.
I REALLY recommend the 162.18 drivers if you are only getting 4-6 FPS Bigspin. -
No point running in dx10 mode..
The differencies are very small and the performance hit huge..

That article seems to be in praise of 162.xx drivers too. These are never leaving this notebook. I tried 165.01, but in addition to the hibernating issue whereby the computer will not turn on again, performance was on par with the stock drivers.
-
(This driver have some flickering and blur issues with NFS-MW & STALKER ,But its better than newer 162+)
I'm not going to upgrade any driver that's not support OC
Hope Future drivers will support OC better. -
Guys I have a problem with the Media Touch..
I go to options and increase pointer's speed.
Everything is ok,but when I restart windows, the settings are lost and it goes back at default speed.
Any ideas? -
Is it touch pad or Media keys -
RepX I try to set my pointer(I b'liv it's touch pad pointer speed) speed from Media Touch & I restart the system ,I never got that kind of problem.

To potential UK buyers,
The 5920 is now available at Comet for a hefty £899.99 - £100 more than laptopsdirect.co.uk. However, it seems to a be a different batch to the current ones. It includes bluetooth and a few other minor features. -
-
do you guys know how to disable sound for media touch buttons? It's too loud for my taste
-
If you go to mouse properties>Acer Media Touch...there is an option to disable sounds.

Hi all..
I am still in doubt whether I buy this "gemstone" or asus g1s a1.
I think all of you already buy Acer 5920. Just want to know.
If you have any chance, will you replace the acer 5920 you have right now with the closest competitor, let say Asus g1s a1. why do you decide so?
Thanks all -
It's all about the money... -
G1s is Slimmer
Nice Exterior Shell, other "gamer" design elements like carbon fiber trim and lights were kind of tacky.
Construction felt more solid then the 5920
Touch pad and touch pad buttons are superior on G1
Screen resolution is nicer on the G1
From my point of view not worth the extra $700.
I initially wanted to buy an Asus and still might go with another one of their less expensive models with comparable hardware as the G1 series. -
I agree, save the $700 and in a year or so sell Acer and add the $700 that you saved.
It's an amazing bargain, especially with HD-DVD & 8600GT. -
Hi!
5920 owners...how much protection does the lid gives?
Thanks for any answer -
BTW it will give protection same as other acers.
For me build quality worth the price -
This was a post in another thread telling that Intel is going to release more processors and may push the price of existing ones by 30%
Will it bring down the price 5920G in the coming months...
Is it good to play a waiting game and save some bucks -
If they are true, these new 'intel extreme ones' should be about 100%/+ better than older core solo's....which obviously isn't true.
And to your question, I can't really see the 5920 coming down in price much more than it currently is. It's an absolute bargain at the moment for the price - nothing really matches it in terms of price for spec. -
just bought the new gemstone by acer with 8600m gt 512 mb at futureshop on sale $799 only concern i have is the 1.5 ghz may not be good enough , is it possible to upgrade to a c2 dou 2.2 ghz in the future? and how would i do it ?
