hey,
i've been thinking about getting the 5562 model of acer's series which comes with
core duoe processor of 1.66ghz but it bothers me that i'm seeing notebooks out there
with 1.7 to 2ghz single processors and i'm wondering wether the 1.66 is "too slow" -
i mean how critical is it? and is the fact that it's duo core make it's performence
outgrow the single core 2ghz processor?
thanks guys

I have not benchmarked the system with centrino 740 etc, but my 5562 1.66 is faster than my Dell Desktop 2.4GHz 1GB Ram.. So, i am happy with it.. Not sure what kind of performance are you looking for..

It somewhat depends on what you want to do with your computer. The core duo processors are IMHO the best laptop processors currently on the market. They use less battery power (longer battery life, less fan & noise) and are generally faster than single core processors. If you like running multiple applications at the same time, core duo is the way to go - no dout about it.
I've read that in single threaded applications a 1.66 duo will match or beat a 2.0 single core. This is due to the higher FSB speed (667 compared to 533 or less in single cores). In some cases a single core will outperform a duo in single threaded applications.
What is really awsome is that duo processor laptop models don't cost any more than a similar single processor laptop model and may even cost slightly less. My recomendation is to go with a dual core model. If the lower clock speed of the 1.66 really bothers you, you can always get a 1.83, 2.0 and even a 2.16 core duo. If the laptop you want doesn't have the processor speed you want and you have the money, you can always purchase a faster core duo processor and drop it in yourself. (This should void your warranty)
Hope I was helpful. Have a good one. -
thanks iceman
that was great.
