So it is time to get my father a netbook/notebook that is something more than a 1 GHz Celeron with 512 MB of Ram and 3 hours of battery life. He would use it near-exclusively for work with the exception of possibly streaming video for news and movie trailers and such. Battery life very important

Is there such a thing as an 11" Acer netbook/notebook which gets 7 hours of life which has a resolution higher than the typical 1024x600?

depend on your price range, but Timeline 1810t is a good candidate, or even it's lower end sibling 1810tz and 1410

Thanks, those are nice. Not quite 7 hours, but definitely much better the current laptop :)

Actually both Timeline 1810t and 1810tz are advertised with 8 hour battery life, most of the owner have agree with little bit of undervolting to the CPU, we they can get close to that amount while using the computer for web surfing and Office document editing.

For myself I have a 1410, and it get close to the advertise battery life of 6 hours (smaller battery on the 1410), even while working on Office 2007 Word, and streaming music from the internet on Wi-Fi, I can get about 5hour and 30 minute battery life.

Yup.. I can second that with close to 8 hours on my 1810TZ doing browsing, word processing, etc.
BTW, some 1410 models have problems with streaming video, especially YouTube.
Its very well documented in threads here. Be sure to get the SU2300 processor if
you chose a 1410. Do not get an Intel 743 or SU3500.

BTW.. If your dad is as old as me, be sure he can comfortably read
the text on an 11.6" 768x1366 high res display.
    If difficult, consider a 13" 3810 model.

I know Windows has the option to change text size to a desirable level. Thanks for all the input! :)
