Hi guys.
In August I purchased an Acer 751h, 2GB RAM and 250GB HD. It came with Vista, which was pretty awful, but since I installed Win7 on it, I don't want to put it down because it performs so well. It's BLAZING fast, a great little machine and I absolutely love it.
My mother needs a new computer and she really likes mine. I'm considering giving it to her and getting myself the new 1410 - what do you think? Does the new processor in the 1410 make that big a performance difference?
In the benchmarks I've read, even the single core version (apparently there is also a dual-core 1410) is twice to three times as fast as the Atom in my 751 - that's pretty impressive.
I can only imagine that the 1410 with a clean install of Win7 would absolutely FLY. It would also be nice to have the different touchpad buttons and wireless N.
What do you guys think of the 1410?
Also, is it worth it to get the dual core model over the single core?
Also to confirm, the 1410 has VGA-out AND HDMI? This would save me from buying an adapter for when I need to give presentations, as most projectors are VGA-only.
Thanks!!!

Here's something to consider:

Why? Is the performance difference that great in favor of the dual core?
They are both the same price, so that doesn't seem to matter, I just want the best performance for my money. -
Difference is night and day
The 751 is super slow with the Z520.
Get the 1410 with the C2D (SU2300) its a big improvement!
(I must say you are one of the few that find the 751 being OK!) -
Well, now I'm doing a little reading on single vs. dual core processors.
What little I've read so far actually says that a higher clock speed single core will consistently beat a dual core processor unless you are running software that is specifically written to take advantage of a dual-core processor.
Seeing as how all I do with this unit is run Google Chrome (Gmail, Gdocs, etc), internet browsing, and on rare occasion use MS Office, does it really matter whether I get the dual or single core?
The single cores I've seen come with a 250GB HD over the 160GB that the dual-cores ship with, which, while I don't have an immediate need for it, would be nice as I could make an additional backup of photos & music from my NAS onto the 1410.
Please tell me more about single vs. dual cores, especially keeping my needs in mind. I NEVER play games on my computers, so that's absolutely NOT a consideration.
Will I even notice any difference in normal, daily use between the single or dual core if all I'm doing is internet & email on web-based Google Apps? -
Everything you do on a multitasking capable OS can be considered multitasking so there should practically be no scenario in which a single core will outperform a dual core, provided there is only little difference in clock speed. There are always processes running in the background which can be offloaded to the second core. Ive got the su3500 single core and Im very happy with its performance but a dual core su2300/su4100/su7300 will be faster. Other features like bluetooth, HDD size etc. are a completely different story. Think about what you need and buy what fits best.
I think you wouldn't notice a difference between single or dual core in your usage scenario, though. For the occasional Youtube HD clip or in case you want to do more, when you realize that this is no netbook any more but a real notebook, you would be happier with a dual core. It's always good to have some headroom just in case -
Remember too as you use blue tooth, wireless AES encryption/decryption and other things you benefit from the second core. Since the su3500 @ 1.4 and the dual cores @ 1.3 you are way better off with the dual core. Also where other things can later be upgraded the CPU can't be, so get the best you can there out of the gate..........

Thanks for the help so far.
Couple other questions:
- Is the 1410 the exact same size as the 751? I've always been under the impression that it is & I really like the 751s form factor.
- Can I add extra RAM to the 1410, and if so, how much? They all come preconfigured with 2GB and I've read that it's usually 2x1GB sticks, unfortunately....
1410 vs. 751
