I have a 1662WLMi that I may send to Acer for repair-

Over time the screen has developed keyboard marks and I want the screen replaced under the 1 year warranty.

Do you think they will replace the screen? I'd like to have it done before I sell it.

Well, no harm in asking Acer for this question...but imo I dont think they will change it, they might term it as regular wear & tear...I suggest either emailing or calling tech support whether it is included in the warranty.

My opinion is that the keyboard shouldn't be touching screen ever. They should fix it. Whether they will, I don't know.

This usually happens because there's flex in the unit or in the screen. This is one of the reasons they are making the LCD top covers out of magnesium alloy or titanium, it stops this type of problem from happening. Flex is bad as you already know and too much flex may cause the LCD to snap.

I think this is a design problem rather than a wear & tear problem, so I don't see why they would give you grief on the repairs. If it's under warranty, I think it should be done without question. But as what Zazonz indicated, who knows what's they'll do/say.

    Good Luck!

Sorry to be off topic, but just curious if any of Acer's laptop comes with magnesium/metal lcd back panel? The most expensive model tm8100 series comes only with plastic back panel just like the rest of the series so i guess Acer does not have any metal back panel anymore.

I just realised a while ago that my old tm613tx has a magnesium lcd backpanel which was kind of a surprise :D

I don't think any of their units now have a magnesium-alloy lcd back panel. They did have the Aspire 2020 series which was all aluminum, but that disappeared pretty quickly to a less expensive plastic series. You may have to look else where for this type of LCD cover.
