It says in the system proerpties that its a Slimtype SOSW-852S but doesnt mention any manufacturer s name. I want to download the latest firmware for this drive coz acccording to Acer it is suppposed to be a DVD Dual Layer Writer but when I try to burn a DVD-RW I get write errors and other problems.

Its a liteon drive. There are pleanty of links out on the web discussing this question, they maybe worth a look.

ps my advice is to check the liteon website for a firmware update, and the specs should also be listed there for the drive.

Ok so can someone tell me where i can get this latest firmware "PST3b" for this drive and how i can install or flash it. I ve never done a flash before. I tried looking for the firmware at liteon s site but could nt find nothign about this drive. Strange it was nt even mentioned!

I have the latest version of Nero (6.6.0.1) and the info tool says the DVD Dual has the PRS7 Firmware and it also shows its not able to write dual layer discs, DVD+R DL is uncheked. I am still having problems burning a DVD-RW.

Welll not yet mate. I guess im just a bit scared of ending up with a dead drive so dont wanna risk it now. Im looking for a step by step solution, tryinfg to find one on the net. Emailed Liteon regarding this and they are no help. They say its not their make or model and I should try contacting the maker of the DVD Dual!! How lame is that!

    "
    Dear Sir or Madam,

We don't have any information about this model name(SOSW-852S ). Would you
please contact its actual vendor?Because in their system there might be
some settings made by them which is unique and belong to their authority.

Anyways the link you ve given me is a long long thread, and its confusing. Guess it ll take me like one hour to go through the whole thing and get some idea on upgrading the frimware. Anyhow Ill try it once I get the time!
