My 1691 has strong signal variations (sometimes the connection is only at 1Mb/s).
Since there is a direct line between notebook and my 54 Mb wireless router, and only 2 meter distance, what is happening? Does this also happens to you?

Is your 1691 using the Intel 2200B/G hardware? if it is, it is becuase the 2200B/G hardware has a problem that causes flactuation connections and connection dropout. For more info, check the Wireless section. There is a sticky thread that have all you need to know on the 2200 problems.

Only a few days ago I came back, and read your reply. Thanks for that.
I start to read the thread (it could take some months to complete), I already installed v8 drivers (from Intel site).
The connection still flactuates (dropping to 24Mb), but the transfer rate seems to be OK (constant). Since I use this connection mostly for internet, my 2Mb connection doesn't fill the bandwidth (220 kBps net vs. ~500 kBps wireless connection).
Just a question for those using wireless connections: I do get about ~1.5 MBps (Mega Bytes) between my two computers (Acer 1691 and a desktop computer using a wireless USB adapter) if I use WIRED Acer and WIRELESS desktop; if I use BOTH WIRELESS connections i only get 1/3 of that (~500 kBps). The question: is that rate 'normal' for a 54Mb connetion ?
ps - I do get about 800-900kbps peak if I use the newer driver on ACER (v9) but only for a limited period of time. In this case, the connection is VERY inconsistant.
