Hi folks,
I've recently purchased an Acer Aspire Timeline 1810TZ. I've removed all the bloatware, updated all drivers (including graphics, chipset, sound) and upgraded to latest BIOS.
It plays 1080p videos stored on the network absolutely perfectly, but it is jerky when playing YouTube 1080p content. It just about handles 720p YouTube. (I've tried both Flash 10 on IE and 10.1 on FF/Chrome). It runs iPlayer HD and Vimeo HD fine.
Has anyone else who has an 1810TZ managed to get YouTube HD working smoothly?
If not, is there anything else I can try and do we think that the final build of Flash 10.1 will improve things? Would a fourth gig of ram help?!
Cheers!

Hi, I've created a new thread for this but for those who are only reading this thread (as it seems to contain multiple queries) - I have a new 1810tz and while it plays 1080p movies etc perfectly, it can't handle 1080p YouTube and only just handles 720p.
I've updated chipset, graphics and sound drivers from manufacturer's websites and upgraded to latest BIOS. Have tried Flash 10 in IE8 and 10.1 in FF/Chrome, and have removed all running background apps so it is just basic Windows.
Has anyone had any luck with YouTube HD on this machine and if so can you provide any tips for me?
Thanks in advance -
my 1410 w/ SU3500 plays uTube HD video perfectly. Have you gone to the Adobe Labs site and downloaded the beta Flash 10.1 yet?
I'm using Safari, but IE 8 should work as well. -
What specific video are you talking about? (there are large differences between videos)
Have you put Windows in High Performance mode?
And is CPU utilization going to 100%?
Like Dave recommendeds: try using Flash Beta. -
This one.
No CPU util stays around 60% I think. I've tried the active x version of Flash 10.1 but the IE8 version won't install, it just crashes after unpacking. 10.1 still jerky in Firefox and Chrome.
Promising to hear it is possible! I'll give it a go in Safari.
Dave92029, are you on Win 7 x64? -
Just tried it on my SU2300 with Win 7 32 bit. Firefox 3.5.6 and Flash Beta 10.1 plugin & active x installed.
It plays well. CPU is mostly around 45-50%.
I'm using the 1986 driver downloaded from Intel.com. The driver setting is on Max Performance.
Also don't forget to put your 1810tz in High Performance profile. -
ok thanks will check these settings
-
Well I've tried the above and no change. Its in High Performance mode, latest drivers and Flash 10.1 in Firefox but still jerky.
Can you confirm that when you click the above video, you click the HD button and select "1080p"? -
Yes I did. Did you install the latest drivers from intel.com instead of manually updating them?
Or maybe we have a different perception of playing well. I wouldn't say it looks 100% smooth, but it looks 97% smooth.
For example: the candle at 2 minutes 25 seconds moves a bit jerky, but I think that is in the clip.
Can you post your 1810tz WEI benchmark?
Here's mine with Passmark 32 bit:
-
Yeah the drivers I have are from the Intel site using the auto-driver checker.
Here is my WEI score:
-
Strange, your system seems to be running fine.
-
Why do I get some lower scores than you when we have the same machine though?
-
You probably have a different hard drive. Which one do you have?
And your memory scored lower. I had 3GB. I'm guessing you have 2GB installed? Or maybe you have different memory. -
I've got 3Gb as well. Did you buy yours in the UK?
One thing I've noticed is that when I uninstall the Intel graphics drivers to 'start afresh', when Windows boots a generic Microsoft/Intel driver is automatically installed. I cannot uninstall this without it being installed every time I restart. This may be leading to a conflict - I want to simply install the intel driver from scratch but having trouble doing this. I end up with 2 intel graphics drivers listed in control panel > add/remove programs.
For example, when I uninstall the new intel driver and restart, right clicking on the desktop still shows a "graphics options" option which brings up the old school blue intel options panel - I can't seem to uninstall this without it being reinstalled when I restart the comp.
Have tried a few tips I found on Google like disabling auto-update of drivers but that didn't work, and I can't access gpedit.msc as recommended in a few posts because I use Home Premium.
Grrr! -
I did a clean install on my system with Win 7 32 bit.
That would be the next thing I'd try. -
Yeah its definately an option, but hoping it won't come to that. I wonder if it could just be 64 bit Windows causing the problem? I also need to look into how to reinstall the OS the laptop came with - it doesn't come with a CD so not sure how to get the original Windows back. I do have a copy of Win7 32bit spare but don't want to lose original Windows that came with it. I'll keep messing around, thanks for your help!
-
You can use the key on the bottom of your laptop to activate any Windows 7 Home Premium version.
You're welcome. -
Just to point out to others, I'm still stuck on this so any further tips welcome!
I'm probably going to reinstall Win7 x64 to start from scratch and see if that helps.
Am interested to hear about 1080p YouTube experiences from anyone with the UK 1810tz with Win7 Home Premium 64bit. -
You did download the clip fully before you played it right, indicated by the red bar?
You probably did but just checking. -
No I didn't, I just made sure that it had buffered enough to ensure it wouldn't get stuck while playing.
-
-
It's only possible if you manually installed the driver package from Intel.com -
Just to update: I've formatted the laptop and re-installed 64-bit Windows from scratch but still got jerky 1080p YouTube.
Installed version 9.1.1.1025 chipset drivers from Intel
Installed version 15.16.2.1986 graphics drivers
Phil, have you installed any other core drivers such as SATA etc?
Tonight I'll probably try formatting again and installing 32-bit Windows to see if that is the cause of the problem, and if not go back to 64 bit again! -
If you installed it correctly you should see something like this when you watch youtube and ran GPU-Z -
-
-
By running the .exe file.
I noticed this gives more features than manually updating the driver. -
Ok thanks, I also installed this chipset driver:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2991&DwnldID=18494&lang=eng
When I say 'manual update' I mean downloading from Intel, as opposed to using Windows Update. I see what you mean though!
Looks like you didn't need the latest chipset driver, or maybe the two are clashing? -
I think Windows installed the right chipset driver by itself. Or the latest wasn't necessary.
I also installed both Flash 10.1 packages, active x and the plugin. Did you do that too? -
I think the active x is for IE, the plugin is for Firefox/Chrome etc that don't run activex?
-
I am not sure but why not try it. You never know.

Your WEI scores are still puzzling me - not sure why your memory and hd performances are so much higher. -
Memory is probably also brand related.
But WEI isn't a very reliable benchmark. My WD HDD that gets a 5.4 is a lot faster than my Seagate which gets a 5.8. -
Your problem with Youtube probably stems from the fact that the new Flash 10.1 only supports 32bit Explorer. Your programs menu should have both 32 and 64 bit versions of IE. Just use the 32bit version and load the Flash 10.1 beta. That should solve it. Hopefully. I use the 32bit versions of Windows 7 so I don't have your dilema. Hope my suggestions help.

are you guys still using the beta1 for flash 10.1 or the beta2? most reviews i've seen show the beta2 as a backward step for the intel G45 sets...
edit***
i'm guessing this is related? (see post #4)
http://forums.adobe.com/message/2496532#2496532 -
At roughly the same time you must have found that link, I found this one, which discusses roughly the same issue.
I have drastically improved things by disabling Hardware Acceleration by right-clicking on the flash video. 1080p now runs much more smoothly! Its not yet perfect, but easily watchable. I'm very impressed that the laptop can handle it even without hardware acceleration on, looking forward to beta 3 now!
Thanks for helping me out with this one, looks like I don't have to reinstall Windows now! -
no, they're different. but i think the major issue is intel chipsets not being supported as fluidly as the others (mostly by intel, but also adobe)....
http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/quick-reference-guide-to-intel-integrated-graphics/
http://download.intel.com/design/chipsets/embedded/prodbrf/319545.pdf
i'm guessing if you posted a follow up on the adobe site, they'd say the same thing applies to the G45(GMA4500MHD)... -
I've learned a bit more now about and it seems like mu SU2300 & 4500 doesn't play 1080p totally smooth.
In clips like this the 720p version looks slightly more smooth than 1080p. the 1080p is still very watchable though. -
), W7HP64x.
CPU @4.0, [email protected], Graphic(s) both @3.2 & HDD @5.4.
I'm not too conerned about HDD speed, but I AM JEALOUS of Phil's excellent RAM score...! I think I will maybe swap some ram out, if the price is right. My current RAM configuration is a mix from two different sources and although benchmark tools state the RAM is configured in dual-channel mode, I'm not 100% sure I can buy that... :-/
Current RAM CFG:
1x noname DDR2 2GB (?x?048MB), 800MHz (PC2-6400, 6-6-6-1T, 1.8V)
with M470T2864EH3-CF7 0942 chips
and
1x Samsung DDR2 1GB (?x?048MB), 800MHz (PC2-6400, 6-6-6-1T, 1.8V)
with KN2GB0H008944140D12500 chips
I'm definately going to try to improve that area, although, getting back to the real topic at hand, I don't expect it to improve my 1080p Flash quality either... :-/
I use Firefox (3.5.7) and still on Flash 10.0.32.18 but I may give the Flash Beta(s) and/or Chrome & IE32 a try... just haven't been impressed with the resutls posted here so far... -

But what I don't get are those Graphics scores... just because of a more powerful processor? What graphics drivers are you using, btw? -
I guess the graphics are benefiting from overclocked FSB and memory.
-
wow how did u do get that performsnce ...??????????
can u please tell me , even i hve su3500 processor...
is it because x86?
i hve 64 bit win 7 -
Look at his signature: 1810T [email protected]
-
ok thanks....
-
the samsung ddr2 666mhz is flash with ddr800 profile modded to ddr666 CL6. that way i get a 3:5 ratio and the ram is clocked at 440mhz on 265mhz FSB
and the GPU is set to 333(440 overclocked by FSB) at 666mhz strap (instead of 320)
btw for 3dmark03 i get 2296 point -
Does anybody know where can I download flash 10.1 beta 1? i can't find it, only the beta 2 and the beta 1 worked much better than beta 2
