    Hi,

    I have a new 1810tz.

When on ac power the screen rear cover is lightly statically charged, running your finger over it feels like touching static.

Stops when on battery and other non acer charger does not produce the effect.

    Is this normal ?

    Thanks

I meant where the mains lead plugs into the adapter,

This can happen with 2 pin ones and you just reverse the shaver plug type connection in the adapter.

If it is a fixed lead or a 3 way 'clover leaf type' I wold call Acer and ask if it is safe as other adapter doesn't do it. Bet they send out another adapter . .

Call Acer. If you are sure it is only on AC then the laptop chassis is being allowed to 'float' above neutral/earth voltage. Used to happen with two wire mains lead TV's, printers etc using the reversible shaver plugs for mains connections

This could be because your domestic wiring Earth /Neutral is floating above the general N /E potential
OR The socket or plug is wired incorrectly
OR You are at high potential due to nylon carpets etc
OR There may be a fault in the adapter or its design

I would report your concern to Acer

If another adapter cures the problem then I suspect the adapter :)

Yes, 2 other adaptors dont produce the issue, and just tried the charger is a different house and the issue goes away, so guess its the mains and charger combo.

    Thanks again.

I have got the bottom of it.

Seems I didn't un pack the acer power cable, i just used the cable that was on my last ebay charger. Seems that perhaps even though it was 3 pins both end only two are connected.

Replaced wall to charger cable and all works great.

    Sorry Acer for doubting you.

Socket and/or plug wired incorrectly then . .

Take the other lead out and destroy it. Potential deathtrap in the future. Clover leaf leads are only a few pounds on line

My charger has 3 pn connection and it not marked with the double insulated symbol (square in square) That means it must have an earth connection so any lead that fits the socket should carry an earth connection too.

This is the trouble with e-bay . . the charger you bought was likely designed as a '2pin' charger and somewhere in far-flung they used the 3 pin socket to avoid L and N being reversed and the output getting referenced to L rather than N. very very Poor practice but that didnt make it immediately unsafe. They may not even have connected the earth internally. Or Maybe the lead has an earth connection that is broken . . or maybe it is 2 core to save 1c. Then the lead moved to a charger designed to need and use the E connection to provide ground reference rather than N . . instant hazard....

anyway . . great catch on the static feeling as no harm is done !
