Is it possible to have both ssd and hdd? Ok there is not enough room for both, but, beside that, could it be possible to use at the same time ssd and hdd?
Like ssd for os, and hdd for boot? Doesn't the mobo have 2 sata channel?
Btw could be a nice idea to use the pcie expansion slot where to put a 1.8 sized drive...

Do as I did. Get the ssd.. and then a 32gb sd card for additional storage.

My system has a 64gb ssd, the 32gbsd (25 bucks) and I have an external adapter for 2.5/3.5" drives that I use for my external.

I am looking to upgrade to a newer faster ssd however....

It's possible, but you need to find vias to attach off the ICH9M I/O. ICH9M has 4 sata ports off it's sata controller. Each port runs 4 sata I/O wires off the ICH9M I/O chip. To be able to attach the SSD you'd need to find the vias leading off that chip. See -> Accessing BGA pins <- for a method to do it. The SATA I/O pins are near the edge of the chip, so it's not too difficult to probe them.

Other hurdle. I'm not sure if the bios would boot off the extra port or not. If not, you'd need to reroute the primary drive's 4 sata I/O lines to the SSD instead and route the additional ports I/O lines to the primary drive.

You may also consider using a mPCIe SSD like the 70mm Runcore ProIV instead, as it's easy to solder the lines and can likely fit in some unused space somewhere. See the 70mm Runcore ProIV sata SSD datasheet for pinout.

You'd also get Legend status if can figure this out.

Accessing BGA pins is too much complicated.. I thought 1810t had somewhere an unused sata port.

Instead the solution of mpcie ssd would be more reliable, but if i'm not wrong, that connector has only usb lines...

    1. notebook mPCIe slots don't as yet have sata i/o lines attached. They have pci-e lines attached. DIfference being the former has a sata controller behind it. There are *some* expresscard SSDs that could be attached to pci-e lines as they have a sata controller in them, only they would not allow direct bios boot from in these systems. So the SSD is used only as secondary storage.

Samsung informed me that 2010 will see notebooks released with these netbook-style sata I/O pins in their mPCIe to allow mPCIe SSDs to be used.

    2. Photos of 1410/1810 systemboards showing the pad for the second mPCIe slot suggest it's a WWAN/usb-only, in which case no pci-e I/O lines.

You just need someone, let's call him/her "Legend", to find and document the 4xvias for the second sata port to attach too. Then can choose a 1.8" or mPCIe SSD to attach to it.

Lenovo U150 CULV can do a mPCIe SSD + 2.5" HDD setup.
