    Hey,

I have an issue with my 1810tz, Win7 64bit. There are these annoying buzzing noises when I use headphones over audio out. They are corresponding with the CPU load, when the CPU is idling they are louder and constant when the CPU is working they change the buzzing rhythmic but are not gone. I cant really they if they are there too over the build in speakers there is this buzzing sound sometimes, but I guess its the hdd in this case. Disabling the audio btw does not mute this buzzing noises too. I had this issue maybe 8 years ago on my first desktop with integrated Realtek audio chip, so I guess its a driver issue or bad manufacturing like bad shielding or such. Anyone having the same problems, any suggestions? Im using latest Realtek audio drivers.

My 1410 does this and others have reported the same thing. Oddly enough, it's worse with one pair of headphones that I have and not as bad with another pair. As soon as I play audio it either goes away or I can't hear it, so it's a "non-issue" for me.

I have the same problem. Mine buzzes from somewhere near the backside, near the memory slot. Muting does no good, and the noise heard from the audio out line is the same noise, so its more like the buzzing noise is going on the audio line or ground line.

Funny thing is, during the bios setup page it doesnt buzz at all. It seems to start buzzing once the drivers are loaded; with booting windows7 mine starts buzzing when the mouse cursor shows up. I should have tried disabling each driver to find what may have been the cause; disabling sound driver would be my first choice; but since Ive sent it in for repair all I can do is wait if acer can find & cure the problem (but support isnt that good here so my expectation isnt high).

-.- But I wanted to hear music and watch TV with my 1810 too. So I guess it is bad design and cant be fixed with drivers or such?

I had the same issue with Win7 x64, updating to the R2.39 realtek drives cured it for me but that was on a 6930G. Also I find that the default sampling rate sounds crackely so switched that to a higher one, suggest having a play with that.

I recently received (Monday) the Gateway ec1430u (1810tz clone) and I get a similar noise whenever hdd is active. I'm tempted to take it apart and see if I can add some shielding to the cable. I really like the notebook, just hate the noise. The noise isn't transferred across the optical cable, and I've yet to check if it transfers through the HDMI or USB (i have a usbdac I could test it on later).

ive googled something more and it seems there is a "problem" with the driver/chip, the buzzing sound occurs when the driver activates the energy saving of the sound chip. there are configs for the linux driver to deactivate the energy saving mode and that solves the buzzing sound problem. you can for example see solution here, for linux. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1335420 but of course there is no way in doing that in windows it seems?

minor update: The noises aren't there when using a usb dac or a dac across optical out, just with the machine's own audio output.

uhm, of course they are not :/ but i dont want to use an usb dac... there has to be a way disabling the power saving of the audio chip in windows maybe some hidden registry value or somehow over powercfg.exe but i could not figured out now how, it always says i dont have administrator rights when i want to do something with powercfg.exe i tried true administrator account but does not work either.

u get it with both the realtek and windows out of the box driver? what happens on uninstalling the realtek thing? If you dont need the useless 3D feature and the additional 20% CPU load caused by the realtek drivers get rid of it...did you activate the Gaining-Feature (which should emulate human hearing and trys to get every sound on the same dB Level, nice feature for silent movies and the notebook speakers, but maybe that gains the noisy thing too)...maybe ur noisy problem will be also cured

I had a few interesting encounters with the Gateway reps. I feel like I'm dealing with a health insurance representative where they'll take every possible measure to avoid giving me what I need. My last interaction had the guy send me a random canned response completely unrelated to my problem (microphone input gain settings). He then wanted me to do a complete system restore to prove it's my hardware.

I decided to take things into my own hands by pulling the system apart. Noticed the cable between the main board and the sound board had a huge kink in it because it's about 1" too long and they put this big kink in there to make it fit under the keyboard. The kink was causing huge EMI from the HDD being right underneath it. I wrapped the ribbon cable with a few layers of cleanly cut and measured aluminum foil and closed the case back up. Noise is almost completely gone now. Noise should be inaudible once i replace the crap foil with proper copper foil.
