I am having a power issue with my new 1830T and cannot seem to find the answer after several searches.

    Symptoms:

1)When I boot on AC power, the battery is reported good but as soon as I unplug the machine shuts off.

2)I cannot boot on battery power. If I pull out the battery, hold the power button for a minute, and plug the battery back in I can run on battery. As soon as I try to plug the AC back in though the machine immediately dies. At that point, I have to go back through the battery removal steps above to get it to boot on battery again.

    3) The machine will shutdown like the above running the OS (Win 7) or will do the immediate shutdown when I swap power sources even during the POST.

    Any ideas?

Use HWMonitor to check your battery wear level.

OK, so battery is seemingly fine.
I assume that if you do that "special" start you can run on battery for a reasonable time- not few minutes but hours, right?

It looks like something is a short-circuit somewhere.

It runs just fine if it boots on battery and stays on battery. I agree with the diagnosis of a possible short. I just wanted to ask and see if there was something I might be missing or a known glitch with a workaround.

Nothing obvious that I know of. Maybe someone else has some knowledge or dealt with a case like this.
