I have an Acer Aspire 3003LCi and I also have two problems which bug me to no end.

    1. The laptop simply refuses to go to standby. Everytime I close the notebook screen the "System Standby Fails to Initialize" the same occurs when I try to go to standby through the Start, Shut Down menu. Windows stays in running mode, with the exception that all of the text has dissapeared and the screen becomes slightly blurred. Has this happened to anyone else?

    2. When I originally purchased the notebook, DVD's played perfectly. Now though, the system seems to lock up entirely. When I put a DVD in the optical drive and the hard drive go into overtime and the screen freezes and then becomes a dark semitransparent color. At first I thought it was completely black, but then I realized I could still see my desktop dimly. Certain times, through manuevering in Windows Explorer and stopping the DVD drive early enough I was able to get some DVD's to read. Lately though, nothing seems to work. I tried all of the Windows troubleshooting (ie: refresh rate changes, 32-bit to 16-bit display, shut down background programs) but still no luck. Can someone please help me?

    Thanks to anyone who assists.

Those are some pretty strange problems. What does the event viewer log when you run into those problems? Check both the Applications and System sub-categories.

thanks so far for the help

I wasn't able to find anything unusual in the event viewer...I just wonder if I'm the only one affected with this or if it's a common default
