I recently bought an Acer 7720 with Vista Home Premium, a few days after setting it up I would go to use the computer and find it had turned off. Looking in the event log I see event error 6008 "the previous shutdown was unexpected"
I sent that laptop back for a replacement, the other day laptop #2 arrived and again I am getting the 6008 error. I was watching a youtube vid yesterday and it just shut right off. Any ideas?

See if this article and hotfix help in anyway. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326564
Also, get rid of all the Acer Bloatware, and only keep Launch Manager. Download the trial versions of Acronis/Casper to make a full backup of the system. Probably eRecovery does the same.
Also check out the Vista Tweaks and Free Software Stickies in the OS Forum. Download CCleaner to clean up the registry.

Thanks, I had performed a complete reformat with my Vista disc therefore there wasn't any Acer software on the laptop other than launch mgr but I will give the hotfix a shot.
Wish me luck -
are you run x64 for vista?

No I am running the 32 bit version

bump...I can't believe I had gotten 2 new Acer 7720's and had this problem on both but I can't seem to find too much info or others with the same problem. I am leaning heavily towards returning the laptop for refund
edit: Just wanted to add that I went to Best Buy today and scoped our their laptops, 7 out of the 9 laptops I checked all had the 6008 error. Every one of the core 2 duos I checked had the error
2 new Acer 7720s give error 6008
