What has happened to the Acer Aspire 2012WLMi?
CDW.com and InfinitPhoto.com have both said this model was discontinued.
What can I get with the exact same specs for the exact same price?
    HELP!!!

Because it has weaker battery (4 cell only).

How can it be 1 pound lighter than the 2012WLMi and have only half of the battery life?

Acer Aspire 1681WLMi has similar specs and price. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=34-115-139&depa=3

Can you purchase an 8 or 12 cell anywhere on the net?

If you can't get the 2012WLMi, and think the 2hr runtime on the 1681 is TOO low. Try taking a look at the TravelMate 4501WLMi.

From the specs, this unit looks more like the 2012WLMi than the 1681. The 8 Cell battery should give you the 4-5hrs like the 2012 and it's costs about the same. The only think you lose out on, is the 60GB HDD. This unit only has a 40GB HDD, but that can be upgraded aftermarket to a faster 5400rpm ro 7200rpm HDD.

If you can't wait for the 2012WLMi's to possibly be back in stock in 4 weeks, this may be an excellent alternative. At least it's way better than the 1681's 2hr runtime.

I dunno, I'm leaning towards the 1681WLMi beacuse it can be had for $1349.99 and I can't seem to find the 4001 as well equipped for under $1449.99. As far as restock on the 2012WLMi goes, I'm hearing from vendors that it is gone for good. Seems like Acer is making a push towards the 2025WLMi, but the problem for me is that the whole reason for getting a 2012WLMi in the first place was the $1299.99 or less proce that it used to fetch.
Now that we are going above that it appears more research is in order to give other manufacturers a chance to compete for my business.

Personally, I would be happy with the following specs:
    1.4 - 1.6 PM (Banthias or Dothan)
    512MB RAM
    AT RADEON 9700 64MB
40GB - 60GB Hard Disk (Would be nice to find at least 5400rpm, but that isn't going to happen)
    5hr+ Battery Life
15.4" Screen with a minimum of 1280x800 resolution
    Maximum of 8lbs
Wireless G (Maybe throw in Super G for $50 more)
Less than or equal to $1299.99

I'm surprised there aren't some manufacturers willing to build a system like this for that price or less. Maybe $999.99 for the same with a Celeron 1.3G and 256MB of RAM.
But battery life and the wide screen w/9700 is what everyone wants and why the 2012 had such a nice run.

    Don't you think?
