I've got my Acer over a month ago, I've been using it pretty much 24/7.
I'm wondering if this is not a good idea for todays laptops or is that a thing of yesteryear?

Heat does not seem to be a problem, everything stays at a normal temp

    CPU 43c
    GPU 43c
    HDD 44c

The only thing I let it do atm is shut off the screen after 15 minutes.
no stand by, no hdd power down, can't leave anything to download when thats enabled. So far things seem fine.

    I have a 3 year warranty anyhow.

How much do you all use your Mobile PC?

similiar use on my Aspire 3503 for almost 1.5 years(what i am typing on now) i only shut it down once a month or so, for updates and to just reset the computer.

I WOULD be using my ferarri but the fall down the 11 concrete steps messed up the hdd, so i am sending it off tommor for acer to fix it. :(

there 3 year warrenty Actually covers it :D :D :D

You must have that 3 year warranty that covers all types of damage do you? I think they mentioned that to me, anyway.. I opted for the 3 Year Manufacturers Warranty.

Yep, it's fine to leave most notebooks on 24/7 and those temps are 100% normal.

Personally the only time mine isn't on is when I'm traveling.

I shut my laptop off a lot. Whenever it's not in use for a while I'll shut it off.

Question, if you run a notebook in battery mode, and NHC says it's using say 15watts and lets it stays like that for an hour, does that mean if I were to plug it in and use it, I would be using 15watts per hour on the electric bill? That's pretty low.......like a light bulb.

I'd be interested in knowing this also using Acers ePower Management.
Is NHC better than what Acer's ePower Management?

I would uninstall acers epower management if NHC had the acpi configured for the notebook. I keep epower management so I can change the brightness of the lcd higher/lower when on battery mode. NHC gives more details, and I like it.

It seems Acer eManagment has a few bugs still, so I'm choosing to just not use it for now. I hope they can create a better Application soon.

I'm very hesitant to leave my laptops on 24/7 after seeing all the battery recalls and possibilties of laptops catching on fire. You never know when the fan can fail and that can be a serious problem if there is no one at home or you are asleep.

I'm considering getting a Acer 5630 core 2 duo this month. I tested one at Future Shop. Not the greatest quality and the keyboard is not same solid touch as my Lenovos but the price is right.

there are more than a few fail safes in the BIOS if something like a fan fails, cpu, video etc overheat.
