Actually, it is possible. The latest Catalyst drivers from ATi (5.7 on up) enable HyperMemory on the PCI-e 64MB and 128MB ATi cards. Go to www.omegadrivers.net and download the modded mobile ones, or just download the modding tool and get the drivers from the ATi site.

I cannot believe someone thinks its not possible. Geez, look at the new drivers and do not give out terrible information to noobs. Yes it is possible to share with your system RAM. Get the new Catalyst 5.8 drivers and it is under HyperMemory. Have fun (you may even be able to share more memory than just 128 MB).

My X700 also has DDR1 - I think that's standard. My laptop is DDR1 also, despite being Alvisio/Sonoma.. thanks, Acer, that's higher battery consumption :p

    DDR 1 is a lot cheaper than GDDR3 too....that's the reason. :(

oh well , i've been wondering though , how do i enable hyper memory, i can't seem to find anything on enabling it, ppl have said the new drivers 5.8 from ati enables them, but i haven't been able to , i've tried omega's 5.7 drivers, but same thing.

Any guidance on how to enable would be awesome.
a step by step , hehe, or pics would be awesome

I believe the hypermemory is enabled automatically. I don't think there are any settings for it.

i guessed that would be the case, but i can't seem to find any evidence of it though , i don't see any of my system memory being siphoned off for my vid card though. Any tools to show that it is being used?

    Runninkyle17,

Yes it is possible to share system memory because of the new drivers, but it's not possible to allocate memory yourself to up your total video memory to 256MB. Hypermemory will automatically pull when/if needed.

Also, it's not necessary to berate a user for giving an answer that may be incorrect. A simple correction to the fact is all that is necessary.

    Gabuser,

I believe someone indicated that the Catalyst Control Center reports when additional memory is utilized. I think this person reported that their memory when upto 320MB.
