Is it possible to upgrade acer aspire 2920 CPU and how far can I go. I'm looking at one with the T5250 1.5GHz.

    Thanks.

What is your chipset/cpu socket? Download CPU-Z and report back.

Well, considering this review mentions a Core 2 Duo T7300 and a GMA X3100, I think it's safe to assume a GM965 chipset with Socket P here.
That means, BIOS permitting, you can go all the way up to 2.6 GHz using a Core 2 Duo T7800 or T9500.

after seeing how the T9300 and T9500 OVERHEAT in the ASPIRE 7720, 5720,5315s...... due to lack of proper fan control in even the NEWEST BIOS,, i'd probably stop at the T8300... unless the latest BIOS for that model has info in the RELEASE NOTES showing support for CPUS in the T9xxx range

the 7720,5720,5315 BIOS recognizes the CPU fine... but reboots continually due to overheating... ACER has yet to install any CPU higher than T8300 in any of those models and thus they haven't updated the BIOS to support cooling info for the T9x00 cpus

Thank you for the responses. I had not seen much in regards to the 2920 on this forum. I was worried that the CPU was not user replaceable, like it was soldered in or something. Looks like i will be looking for the T8300. Are there any guides out there for replacing the CPU in the 2920. I assume it is close to the 5920 in internal structure.

Thanks again, I appreciate the help.

Well, you can always ask atthegates for the 2920 Service Guide.
He seems to have them coming out the proverbial wazoo.

Well, there was that "Thinking Out Loud" thread I posted about a possible upgrade to the 9500M GS in Aspire 6920Gs, but I digress.
Let's get back on topic, shall we?

Martin, I'm sorry for derailing your thread - we're still here to help.
Atthegates, hook this man up with the 2920G Service Guide, please.

Thanks for the help and the manual. So I have a T8300 siting here waiting to go in. Do you guys usually use arctic silver on CPU? I was looking through the manual and didn't really see anything about it.

    Thanks.

AS5 is nice to use!!! just don't use much... there are a couple of HOW TO GUIDES listed in the first post of the ACER 3860 CPU UPGRADE THREAD

it will drop the temps by a few more degrees.....

i personally just reused the PASTE that came installed on my original CPU since it is more play-dough like it's easy to reuse...
