    Dear all ..

yesterday night i faced with a very unsual problem. i installed Nokia PC suite Version 5.1 and was browsing through polyphonic ringtones on my laptop.. suddenly my laptop got stuck including the music. Though i could move the cursor using my touchpad i was not able to function the left and right buttons.

i reset the machine using the power button but the windows XP OS stopped functioning fully. As soon as i pass the Bios screen nothing happens, i can see that RAM is busy but the windows XP is not loading..

i really dont know what went wrong so i badly need your help on this.

i feel the problem moght be the following
    1.Windows OS got Corrupted
    2.Harddisk is not responding.

looking forward all kind of solutions

    Thx

I would really just recommend a full reformat.

currently i am on tour and Acer recovery CDs arent there with me now i had left them at home.

how can one ensure the problem is not with the harddisk or any other hardware??

Can Dell restore CD work on Acer??

Dell restore CDs will not work on an Acer. You can run HD Tune to see if there are problems on the hard drive. Did you try the recovery partition? Unless you already formatted. A backup might not be a bad idea.

HD Tune can be downloaded and run if you can get into Windows. I think you can get to the recovery, if it is there, by hitting "ALT+F10".

Try running checkdisk from the command line.

Your Windows OS got corrupted. This already happened to me. Did you recently update your BIOS?

Hold down both CTRL keys when powering on. This will bring up the boot options for XP. Try selecting Command prompt only and run chkdsk from there. If the startup options don't appear, then you will have to try formatting partition C and reinstalling, or getting an XP disk and trying the repair console

i havent touched my bios other than once to enable password while booting but that was like 2 months back.. the night my laptop stopped functioning all i did extra was that i installed Nokia PC suite version 5.1.

i would try going to command prompt and run chkdsk so that i could ensure that my harddisk is on the safer side..

i will post the results tomorrow .. thx to all.
