    I'm looking at the middle screen shot. sorry, ich verstehe nicht Deutsch.
    I understand it says 8 bit but I think if output was actually 8 bit I'm 100% sure you'd hear it. Can you use digital audio out into a stereo system amp and try and set it to 5.1?

    My amp lets me know if it's "receiving" 5.1 or mixing 5.1 itself from a stereo input.

    i.e.:
    true 5.1 signal ---> AMP ---> 5.1 out
    2.0 signal ---> AMP (mixes it to 5.1) ---> 5.1 out (fake but still nice)

    -A blue light comes on the front of my amp if it's receiving a true digital signal. Maybe there is something similar on your amp and you can test.

    Hope this helps.

    my amp says 5.1 but in i.e. ut2004 only the font speaker sounds.
    i think it has to do with that directsound reports only 2 channel.

    i thought it would be usefull to set speaker to 5.1 but for the digital out no speakerpanel is avaiable
