Is there any way to monitor fan speed (RPM)?

My left fan (CPU) making a rumbling / clicking noise that I'm a little concerned about.

That's weird, I never knew there was a 3820 model with a Pentium Dual Core. Also, shouldn't the weight be 1.8kg, unless the battery is 9 cell?

A few months ago Acer presented its TimelineX range in society, an evolution of the well-known series Timeline replacing low consumption by new models Arrandale CPUs (Core i3, i5 and i7 of 2 cores), unless its autonomy is too resintiese why

The version from which I speak today, equipped with an Intel Pentium Dual Core P6100 microprocessor to 2 Ghz with a power similar to the of a Pentium Dual Core 900, allows the realization of all kinds of multimedia and everyday tasks.

The main advantage of these new chips Pentium, P6000 series they are based on Westmere architecture (which use the Core i3, i5 and i7 of 2 cores), integrated into the own microprocessor memory DDR3, the integrated graphics controller and the PCI Express controller, circumstance that considerably reduces the energy consumption of the system. In addition, fitted a larger amount of cache improves performance of the microprocessor allowing you to offer a power equivalent to that of models Pentium DC significantly with a speed of higher clock (more Mhz.).

Available than 4 Gb memory DDR3 1066 Mhz (dual channel) and a hard drive from 500 Gb to 5400 rpm.

Looks nice, though for me it's more the weight rather than the size. I'd like to have a 15" with the 3820tg spec (or a bit better these days), under 1.9kg...

I'd like to see an Envy 15 or XPS 15z with with about 600 grams shaved off.

The closest thing to a 3820TG in a lightweight 15" is the Sony SE. It has a bright high contrast 1080p screen but a mild color shift problem. 2nd gen core i5 CPU and an AMD 6630 GPU option. Weight is 4.4lbs

    Hey all,

I'm wondering if the 3820tg has a WoL (Wake on LAN) feature. I checked the specs and it seems like it does, but I can't find it on the BIOS how to enable it.

    Any help?

It's enabled by default. The option is just hidden, like so many other things in a laptop BIOS.

He again guys , i dont know if its a proper place for my topic but it concerns my 3820tg.

    First of all config of my 3820tg: 4GB DDR3, Stock HDD 5400RPM, HD6550M @ 750/1000, i3 380m @ 2,8GhZ. drivers for ati card are 11.12
Internet connection : via WiFi 32Mbits/0,5 Mbit . Low latency to servers - about 10-20ms

The problem : While playing battlefield 3 or battlefield bad company 2 on my acer I notice quite annoying problem which i call - the lag ;]. For example after sprinting i can observe that my character is going backward[ something like rewind-back] or after shooting -that the bullet/rocket actually hasnt been shot.

Problem doesnt occur on my Desktop PC , i tried solving it by lowering settings like resolution, textures q etc but it didnt help, i ll provide a video in some time, in which the lagg problem occur @ resolution 1024x768 and low settings and about 70 FPS. In battlefield 3 I get about 40 FPs and the same story happens which makes the game unplayable. [ Its like running against a strong wind..].

    Hello:
I just bought BF3 and it's running all fine on a combo of low/medium. Only problem is that the ground is extremely dark and got shining squares all over, similar to a chess board. I've read around about it some, and it seem to be a driver problem.

So my question is; how do I get my hands on more recent acer drivers for the 3820tg/HD 5650 than the once on their homepage. The latest driver there is from before BF3 was released. AMD got a driver that's only 5 days old though, but everyone probably already knows that we can't use those. Or is there any way, except for turning off the switch graphix, to do so?

    Thanks in advance ~Griff

in the first post in that topic you have a link to the most recent drivers,

The problem i mentioned in my previous post occurs only in multiplayer... now i tried to use internet via ethernet cable but there is still big lagg

I don't know about the problem you describe, it sounds like rubberbanding which is caused by either you or the servers connection spiking/being unstable. I don't have any of that. I also got bfbc2 and I can run that without any problems what so ever. I happen to have a 100/100 mb/sec fibre-lan connection, but 32 should work out great too, right? Sorry that I'm unable to help you.

And yes I've read the first posts, but the question still stand since you get an error when you try to use AMD's own drivers. And the one from Acer is just too old (I really don't get why they keep us hanging with ancient drivers, that's just straight out rude). And yes, I know that you can turn off the switch graphic in bios and then use AMDs own drivers. But no, I really don't want to do so since I use this computer in school and at work without having acess to set up my charger, or whatever you call it.

    There must be another way.

Oh cool, I missed that link. One thing though, is it supposed to give a blue-screen in the middle of the installation and restart. Because I've tried to install the 11.12 drivers two times, returning the computer to its earlier state each time before installing again. And I got blue-screen both of the times.

I'm going to try that 11.11 "compability" driver now, wish me luck.

    Hey Guys

Ive been pretty happy with my 3820TG ever since I bought it more than a year ago. Some times though, inexplicably I've run into this problem where the computer hangs after logging into Windows. The CPU light remains on and doesn't blink and I can't do anything. I remedied this a few times by running chkdsk /R from the recovery console which took upwards of 7-8 hours. I thought this was due to the Toshiba HD in my laptop not being the best but I might be wrong.

Recently I've run into a problem which seems like the mother of all issues. It's blocked all escape routes. I came home from work where the laptop was functioning fine, and for some reason when I turned it on it started installing all my drivers from scratch. This puzzled me and it also failed to install some of the drivers. I download and installed from the ACER website, had some issues with installing the VGA drivers. I had set the graphics to discrete in BIOS to avoid complications. After I was sure the video card was working fine (Game and Video acceleration), I rebooted only to get a BSOD with "unmountable_boot_volume". This happens after seeing the Windows loading screen, with the windows logo displaying properly. Choosing "Startup Repair" or "Repair your Computer" options yield nothing but a Windows 7 Wallpaper screen with the cursor in the middle. CPU light stops blinking and nothing seems to be happening. I tried using the Windows 7 x 64 recovery disk but it gets stuck after choosing keyboard layout on the "Select Operating System" or "Restore from Previously Saved Image" screen. Memory diagnostics are fine. I don't know if it's a hardware error since I have Splashtop OS (Chromium) installed and it seems to be working fine. Right now I'm downloading UBCD for Windows to see if it can help. After that I intend to run hard drive diagnostics if I can find some software to boot off the USB stick. If only I could get into Command Prompt, I could rebuild the boot or run Chkdsk /R. What are my options?

    Specs: 3820TG TimelineX Core i50-450M, Radeon 5470, 4GB DDR3, 640GB Toshiba

Note: It came with Windows 7 home preinstalled but I had upgraded to Professional. The company I worked for gave me a license. I'm hesitant to do a clean install because I don't have the license data. Also, I stand to lose a lot of data if I do a clean install.

So what do I do Bronksy? I could salvage the data by copying the contents to a 3.5 SATA that I have. If I buy a new hard drive, then I lose the X partition and subsequently the windows installation and preconfigured driver folders. So a clean install of Windows 7 on a new hard drive, then installing all drivers from the ACER website, is that the only option?

    I agree with Bronsky's diagnosis.

My little darling came with this behavior out of the box: RMAed it, and since it got a new HDD no further problems.

    Zero: Instant BACKUP yout data!

First: check SMART Values / surface scan.

    Second: memory (memtest)

When the problem occures again, try starting the taskmanager immediately (as long as it is still possible), then open Resource Monitor / Disc and check the drive's: "Highest Activity Time" (blue icon) if its near 100% your HDD is faulty (happens when the system tryes to I/O a broken sector)

    therapy:

    - BACKUP!

    - New Hardrive! (don't buy the original WD Blue things, they are horrible!) Low Level Format may give you some time, but won't cure the problem (my personal

I have to say that I've not been tempted to buy anything else out there because I like my Acer so much. I've owned a 3820TG since June, 2010 and I have used my unit in daily service without a hitch. The display is fine for me but I would like more contrast and 900p resolution. I'll probably start to consider a replacement for my Acer this year, if Ivy Bridge units are as power-efficient and suggested, have thunderbolt support and native USB 3.0 support. Still, Acer really hit a sweet spot with this notebook.

    Hello
    I have special question

Few days ago i have tried to mine bitcoins on my 3820. I was running on 5650 GPU and i encountered that my computer was lagging. GPU may be the reason, because it cannot handle mining and fluent output to screen together. Solution can be running display on intel and computing(mining) on ati. Problem is i cannot set GPUs into this state.
Intel handle screen output only if ati is disabled. So i cannot mine...
And if i enable ati, it immediatelly overtakes screen output from intel, so i am at the beggining, both mining and screen output is handled by ati and my computer lags.

Is there any solution how to make inetel output to screen and have ati turned on ready for gpu computing?
Maybe in extended bios is some setting (like intel-only option http://forum.notebookreview.com/7214705-post9986.html) which can enable desired GPU behaviour. Maybe other options for Primary display(AUTO, IGD, PEG, PCI, SG) could be solution. Can anybody explain me what this options stand for? (only first two are clear for me)

    thanks in advance

If I understand correctly, you want the Intel GPU to display output and the ATI GPU doing some crunching in the background. AFAIK that's impossible with ATI's switchable graphics because they use multiplexers. Only Optimus notebooks allow that I think.

I run that only on my gpu. CPU folding is disabled. Like this, my system does not lag in day to day tasks, however folding must be paused if i want to do anything gpu intensive like games.

Does the bluetooth toggle off when you turn the wireless off with Launch manager? As long as you can toggle on and off with the device manager, at least you have that option.

Might have missed this somewhere and by the looks of it too456 should know, did we ever figure out a way of having the bluetooth enabled on startup by default?

    Also:

Getting super slow boot times, Crystalmark attached. Any ideas? time to upgrade to an SSD?

Install Launch Manager v5.0.6, restart, turn on bluetooth and/or wifi, restart, check launch manager again. Bluetooth/wifi should be on by default then.

So yeah, the hard drive's broken as Bronsky pointed out. I'm thinking of getting a Momentus XT 500GB, any people here with a 3820tg and momentus? How's it working out for ya?

Secondly, is there a way I can retrieve the Windows key from the registry whilst running Ubuntu Live USB? There is just no way to get into Windows partition apart from that. Ubuntu recognizes the drive and let me backup the files, but I can't access it if I connect it via USB external enclosure.

Finally, how do I go about installing drivers from scratch once I've got Windows up and running on my new drive?

As for drivers, you can download the ones for your system here.

This laptop was ordered for me by a company I worked for back in 2009. As soon as I set it up, they gave me a Win 7 Pro license (Part of their agreement with Microsoft) and I upgraded. I'd rather remain on Win 7 Pro if I can help it, I've gotten in touch with them to retrieve the license information but it's taking a while. Is there no way to retrieve it?

Also, if all else fails and I decide to install Windows 7 Home using the key on the bottom of my lappie, where do I get the CD from? Acer?

You could retrieve your Windows 7 Pro license using Magic Jellybean Keyfinder if you still can access Windows. As for CD, try this link.

Thanks too456, appreciate the response. I heard about Magic Jelly Beans and Produkey but since I can't access Windows at all, it seems futile. So far I've tried repairing my computer, running startup repair, safe modes, using the Windows installation/recovery cds and the Alt + F10 Acer factory restore option. None of them seem to work.

I found where is the problem with lagging. I had my GPU miner set to too high aggresion, which means that it consumed so much GPU resources so it couldnt draw desktop at desired speed...

If your company passed you the keys, do you still have any form of documentation, like email, slip of paper where it can be found?

Sorry for the late reply, but I tried the 12.1 and used the cleaner. Turned off every other program and didn't tuch anything while it was working as it told me to. But it ended up ruining my computer entirly, they keyboard didnt work proberly. The network didnt respond and yeah. I had to perform a factory restoration to make the computer useable again. So I'm not too fond of trying that again.

Anyway, I've found out that I can install the drivers while in descrete mode and make it work all fine, no graphical errors what so ever in bf3 etc. But as fast as i turn it back to switchable again it seem to have lost its Intel HD drivers and automaticly install some new drivers and after that is done all the graphical bugs/errors returns.

I have no idea what to do here, any suggestions?

You must install the switchable graphics package in switchable mode. Only install AMD drivers in discrete mode.

Yeah, I used the cleaner in switchable mode, same thing with the leshcat's hybrid version of the amd drivers. I just tried it out in descrete once out of curiosity. But is there a separate switchable graphics package?
