I contacted the people in IT and asked them to reissue the key. They said they don't have the key they issued but they were willing to issue a new license. I didn't want the one I already used to go to waste so I did a little more research. Found a workaround.
Using Ubuntu Live USB, I copied the Windows folder to an external hard drive. I accessed it from a Windows based computer, and loaded the hive into Magic Jelly Beans whilst running the program as administrator. That did the trick. Such a relief to have retrieved my information. So next time I do a clean installation, I just enter it and it shouldn't cause any problems right? What about activation? Thanks =)
-
-
Activation should work fine online. If it fails, call Microsoft and explain your situation, they'll sort it out for you.
-
Anyway, I called Acer and told them that you couldn't run BF3 and other new games properly with their current ancient drivers. So he is going to report it to the HQ and order new drivers.

hi,
i got following problem: with the latest AMD driver 12.1, i can't prevent my graphic from switching while my browser is open.
With official acer 11.6 driver 3820tray.exe can prevent but not with the latest. Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem? thank you in advance!
EDIT:
Ok, the results of my research are that you can prevent from graphic switching until AMD 11.11. The later releases like 11.12 and 12.1 disable this ability so i stay on version 11.11 untill AMD releases a driver which enables this function again or a work around is released. -
Let's see:
I've formatted the laptop.
I've done a copy is hidden security of the partition with the Windows Home.
Now I have Windows XP and Windows 7 Ultimate this last I have not had to do anything has been validated me automatically and I do not have the bios last or anything.
You only need to integrate the files in the installation of the Windows you recognize SLIC. -
That won't work. They won't waste resources on testing new drivers for an old laptop.
-
Please, someone has to operate this laptop with the card graphics ATI Mobility Radeon ™ HD 5470 Graphics in Windows XP.
Can't get the drivers on this card give me always error.
Thank you. -
There are no available drivers for Switchable Graphics in Windows XP. You must use Windows 7.
-
Then in Windows XP only can use the drivers from Intel HD or also can install the ATI and changing the settings in the Bios.
It is that I have not found Drivers available for windows XP.
Thanksssss. -
You can install the Intel HD Graphics driver OR the ATI driver (only ATI in discrete mode), but there are no drivers that package both together for Windows XP.
-
too456
Thank you very much for the help, the problem is that I cannot find Windows XP drivers ATI discrete mode for my card ATI Mobility Radeon ™ HD 5470.
I have clear Windows XPno can manage this way Swichable but the contro panel gives me error of this chart. -
I have W7 Pro on my Acer running Virtual Machine in XP mode for all work I need to do in XP (half my office is still on XP). My ATI GPU works fine in XP mode.
-
Hi again!
I have some trouble with my screen. When I'm moving it on Intel the screen is breaking display what is really terrible. It is just interrupting on some positions of screen. On ATI I have only green crashes on some positions. I think that is technical issue but does anybody meet this problem? -
There are no mobility drivers for Windows XP. Only desktop drivers are available
-
BookArc Stand - BookArc Stand - Twelve South
Has anybody used something like the BookArc with their 3820TG and connected it to an external display?
I'd love to use this for when my laptop is on my desk, so I don't have to squint at the small 13.3" display... -
I just leave the Acer flat and plug in a full size keyboard and 24" IPS LG display.
-
Nice. My IPS is coming next week ( this one). Going to try the BookArc this weekend with my 20" Display.
I'm hoping for some positive results in terms of temperature, plus I'm quite tight for space on my desk so the flat isn't really an option.
What are you doing in terms of sound? Through HDMI and built-in speakers? -

The Pannisonic Toughbook thread users are burning up the contest. I think we need more of a showing from Acer users.

My 3820TG just died this morning. Yesterday everything worked just fine, but when I tried to start the acer this morning nothing happend (charged battery inserted).
Since I bought the laptop I replaced the RAM ( one acer DIMM died after 2 months
) and the hdd with a ssd.
Does anyone know if i can rma it without the ssd and without hdd because the original hdd is occupied elsewere? -
If you're in the US, I am fairly sure the Temple Texas depot will accept the Acer for warranty work without a HD.
-
Thanks for your reply.
I am from Germany, so I asked the Acer service a few minutes ago about the HDD. They told me, that it would no matter if I send it in with or without HDD as long as I am sure that the problem is not HDD related (it's not
).

ok so awhile ago i modded my bios (1.19) to overclock my video card using phoenixtool and RBE and everything has been fine for a long time but until recently I noticed if i restart my computer then my video card wont run at the flashed speed, it will run at 300mhz on both the clock and memory instead of what its supposed to be (800 clock, 1000 memory)...i have to reflash with the modded bios to fix this...what is the deal?
-
Try disable and enable PowerPlay in CCC ?
-
Hey, sorry don't have any information on the overclocked card you're talking about...
Just didn't know where to post this, so here goes:
Is there anyway to upgrade my 3820t, just t, with the video card the comes with the TG, anyway like soldering it in even? Or is the integrated intel going to be there for good. I figured if the 3820tg has both the integrated and the other card, then I would be able to add to mine? Thanks. -
i already have powerplay disabled
-
Not possible.
-
I would think that you can swap motherboards between the TG and T series as they use the same case. Other than that, you're out of luck.
-
Hi, I want to buy a 9 cell battery for my 3820G.
But I'm not shure, which one is the right one.
On the (German) Acer-Shop site I cannot find one for the 3820G, only for 3820T and TG with the ID: LC.BTP00.119
Acer Online-Shop - Akku für Aspire:9 zellen / 9000mAh / Schwarz
In the shop of an official Seller of Acer-Parts ( Notebook Ersatzteile bei ipc-computer.de) I can find a battery with the ID BT.00907.013. But its in the category for the 3820TZG.
Akku Original (BT.00907.013) für Acer Aspire 3820TZG
Can I use one of these for my 3820G?
Are there any other batteries for the 3820G? -
i think i might have figured out part of my problem. It seems that f9 is some sort of hotkey for the video card. I was using f9 as a quickload function (in game) but noticed when i hit f9 it would cut my framerate in half, then be back to normal again when i hit the key again. I looked in the CCC and seen nothing relating to f9 though.
-
Do you use fraps at all?
-
yea i do why?
nvm i see that f9 starts a video capture mode and its limited to 30fps. thanks pillowshot
still dont know why my video card was maxing out at 300 still...hasnt been happening anymore though -
Hi guys, I have a warning:
Don't let Windows Update install drivers for the Intel Graphics while running modded switchable drivers.
I did it and lost the ability to switch and have no control over the screen brightness.
Sorry if this was already mentioned, but I can't see it in the thread. -
Anyone got the 12.1 gpu drivers in a place that doesn't require you to make an account to download?
-
hi ive got leshcats 12.3 pre-WHQL driver and i cant install windows 7 SP1, the intel version is past the problem version however it still refuses to upgrade. Any ideas on how to go about attaining SP1 without it failing?
-
Updated driver list. New drivers are for audio, lan, vga, alps touchpad and broadcom bluetooth. List here.
EDIT: Newest hybrid VGA drivers causing issues with my laptop, removing it from the list for now. -
thanks too456. I also stopped using modded hybrid drivers. They are too glitchy. I just use the last hybrid driver from acer.
finally, there is an update for the alps touchpad. Took them long enough.
Atheros updates their Lan drivers often, which is a good thing. -
i ll disagree with you about being glitchy.
-
Is everything working fine with the latest modded hybrid?
-
The latest 12.1 v2.7 drivers caused my laptop to boot up with a black screen in switchable mode. In discrete mode Device Manager shows that both drivers were not installed. I removed the old driver using the cleaner packaged with the installer before installing 12.1. Either way, I'm rolling it back to the original 12.1 driver until 12.2/12.3 WHQL is released.
-
the pre-WHQL is quite stable of 12.3 but i still cant install sp1, do i need to go back to the original Acer drivers to update to SP1? I had this problem with the 11.2 drivers i think.
-
Download the full SP1 installer (link here) and install the one for your system directly. There shouldn't be anything to worry about so long as your drivers are not within the affected versions.
-
Hi,
I've bought the Crucial M4 256Gb but it has some problems.
After a crash, the bios doesn't recognize the ssd.
None has this ssd in the Acer 3820tg? Because i suspect an incompatibility.
Thank you and sorry for my bad english
p.s. God bless google translator
-
I have that exact ssd with the laptop and it runs without a hitch. I even updated it to the last firmware.
Despite a bit lock-up due to me screwing up the reboot order, once I overcame my own idiocy it runs fine. Well, better than fine, I'm ssd addicted now
-
Oh god I want an SSD now and an IPS screen.
Maybe I should wait for AMD Trinity laptops... gah! -
anyone lucky enough to have an insanely fast internet connection and already have windows 8? If so what drivers play nice with our laptop? Do the touchpad drivers work? Do the graphics play nice?
-
I only installed it on VirtualBox so I don't know what drivers work. I do know however that the Intel drivers have been expressly forbidden from being installed on Windows 8 as per the driver inf file.
-
Hello.
I have a problem with keyboard. I need to press some keys multiple times to "register" them. For example Caps Lock, "5", "6", "7".
Pressing some other keys is sometimes registering double. For example sometimes when I press "h" it shows "hh" in text editor.
I bet this is hardware problem. Has it been encountered before? Is there a fix known? Do I need to buy new keyboard?
I tried simple cleaning it (without removing it from laptop) with tissues, cotton swabs. It's clean from the outside. I never spilled anything or something like that.
Sorry for my poor English. -
Try cleaning and reseating the keyboard cable.
