So I'm pretty sure my brand new 3820TG bought from PCHOME is defective.

According to the e-mail I received back asking for an exchange, they don't do that with international purchases. Only thing I can do is to return it, shipping paid by myself.

I tried contacting ACER for warranty service, but since it's a Sunday and tomorrow is labor day, theres no way to get in contact with them. And even if they were open, I don't think I can get past the automated service agent.

Acer's automated service agent asks for the SNID or the serial number located on the bottom of the laptop, but the system won't recognize it. Probably thinks it doesn't exist since it was purchased from Taiwan when I'm in the United States.

I know bankergolfer has contacted Acer in regards to the warranty, but I'm not so sure. What do you guys think I should do? Should I just suck it up and return it and purchase another? Or is there someone I can contact to get warranty service here in the states?

    Thanks.

Thanks. I'm gonna see if this works before I consider sending it back to PCHOME. =(

So just to update for anyone else who may purchase from PCHOME or require Acer's services.

PCHOME will not replace internationally purchased items, they will only accept returns (you have to pay return shipping). They must be notified within 5-7 days of product receipt or you're SOL.

Acer will honor their warranty with you, except your SNID / Serial Number don't work with their automated system. Your only course of action is to contact them via their website. Luckily, they are very responsive. They called me and setup a RMA fairly painlessly.

A 6.7% quarterly decline will do that to a company. :D To be fair, I have found Acer USA service personnel to be very nice, courteous and cooperative.
