Yeah, I guess DDR2 is the main reason for 5920 being significantly slower on 3D Mark than Asus G1S.
Your score is quite good for this laptop.

Anyways, does the GPU clock go any higher or just artifacts over 546MHz? :D

When I Go farther(550GPU WITH 540RAM) I'm getting artifacts OR BSOD
ASUS G1S Also have Better CPU! Its CPU score is better than me.

Well ASUS is C2D 2,2GHz and ACER is C2D 2GHz- the same FSB and cache.
That has very small impact on 3D Mark score.

ASUS scores 3800 here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=126146 and that is by no means thanks to additional 200Mhz of CPU.

I'd say ACER gave us DDR2 or maybe even GDDR2 instead of at least GDDR3 or best of all DDR3.

I wonder if you could try leaving the core at your max freq and try to overclock memory come more?

The score of the G1S was benched at 1024x768 I believe, which could explain the difference in scores. Overall, I think ~3400 score at native resolution and stock speeds is pretty good, considering this machine sells for around $500 less then a G1S. Maybe if we could see how the Acer performs at 1024x768 it would be easier to compare.

Thanks for the benchmarks Bigspin :D

I Saw ASUS Benchmark Tread .ASUS always have Better SM 3.0HDR Results,But mine have Better SM 2.0 Results & ASUS G1S CPU Score always 150 Points above My CPU
This may be a driver Problem,I'll try to install default Nvidia driver and Run 3DMark06 Again.

You can see ASUS tread from Here....

Looks like a very good score, I did expect the Acer to be slower but it seems pretty much just as fast.

The CPU seems correct, the 5920 has a T7300 while the G1S/G2S have a T7500.

I can get G1S for $1805 shipped but the problem I have with Acer is the resolution of the screen. Its decent score which put right in middle of F3SV-B1 and G1S
The ASUS F3SV-X1 which is also WXGA costs $1400. If Acer is priced at 1400-1450 with similar spec to G1 except Video card and LCD resolution then Acer is better deal and great for those who don't want to spend 1800 but don't want to but Notebook 8600GS.

The G1S 3dmark06 scores the following:
    Default Clock
    1024x768 - 4746
    1280x1024 - 3630

    Overclocked
    1024x768 - 5411
    1280x1024 - 4345

    The F3SV scores the following
    Default Clock - 1280x1024 - 2032
    Overclocked with 2Gb RAM - 1280x1024 - 2879

Your overclocked score puts the Acer exactly in the middle of these 2 laptop if you can run a test at 1280x1024. Since there is .3MPixel additional rendering in G1S benchmark.

PS: You are looking at the thread for G2S which is 17inch model.
Here is the correct thread for G1S http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=125246

Can you do 3dmark06 score at default clock at 1024x768 to provide a comparison.

DUDE I LIVE IN SRI LANKA(3 rd WORLD COUNTRY ACCORDING TO WORLD BANK)

    I Can't Spend $3100 For ASUS G1 With 2 Year ITW(New G1S-A1 $3380 )

I can Buy ACER Aspire 5920G For $ 1900 With 1 year ITW (Can Buy With 3 year ITW For Extra $190) :D

SO I DON'T LIKE TO WASTE $ 1200 OF MY MONEY FOR EXTRA 400+ 3DMARK06 POINTS

ASUS USE DDR3 FOR THEIR VGA CARD & ACER USE DDR2 ,SO THATS WHERE THE PROBLEM LIES ;)

I am not saying Acer is bad buy or that it is bad deal. I am trying to put Acer into context of when it is good deal in comparison to G1S
I appreciate your effort in getting us some benchmarks from the Acer offering so people can make better decision about their purchase based on individual budget and needs.

Not upset ...just not used to seeing Capital letter in reply post in response.

How come it will $3380 for Asus G1S in Sri Lanka?
You could buy it from US or european reseller for 2k and it does have 2 year global warranty so you won't lose any warranty.
I am guessing there must be a huge custom charge.

Well I live in the middle of Europe and ASUS G1S would cost me 2480$ and ACER 5920 would be only 1905$.

ASUS pricing is somewhat confusing sometimes

Yes! I Know It.....But Government not charge TAX(Custom or VAT) for Desktop Computers or Parts :D
But For Laptop They Charge Custom tax + 18% VAT (To improve computer knowledge & to improve workforce efficiency they remove TAX from Desktops & Parts,But laptops take as a semi Luxury Good)

So buying a desktop is not so expensive(But 5%-10% Expensive than US cos of doller exchange rate)

Sure !I think they pricing everything higher to show they make good Products

I was talking about the situation in the Netherlands. I can get the Acer for 1349 euro (plus 50 euro for an extra year warranty, and this is at a rather expensive shop, it should become lower when more shops offer it) which is around 1860 dollars. The Asus is going to cost somewhat over 1900 euro which comes out at 2520 dollar (so my $500 diffence was on the low side even, it closer to 650).

Importing is not an option, Next to the $1900 pricetag I would end up paying 100+ in shipping and anywhere between 20 en 30% in customs, making it about as expensive as locally.

I'm pretty sure the Asus is the better machine, but I'm just not so sure it's worth the ~30% premium over the Acer.

I think they charge themselves for selling semi luxury goods in fact. It's premium so you gotta pay extra- just like for ACER Ferrari. You can get similar or better specs for less but it ain't gonna be Ferrari.

That reminded me- how's the build quality of 5920?

a bit disappointing performance from Acer, if they had to downclock the graphics chip to work in their notebook, it doesn't say anything positive about them.
I will still buy this one, because there is simply no better option available in my country

It's not downclocked. GPU is at default freq. RAM is DDR2 so the freq is normal, for DDR3 it would be higher but a bit more expensive. Most of the heat comes from the GPU core itself and as you can see above the cooling is sufficient to overclock quite a while, so don't take it out on ACER.

I'd be glad to see DDR3 too, but as you said 5920 is a great deal for this money...

I have the Best Buy 1.5GHZ core 2 duo model. I will run some benchmarks over the next few days as a comparison to the UK 2.0GHZ core 2 duo model.

So far..... Very impressed, plus Acer chose to use MXM II for the graphics module in 5920. So it will be upgradable in the future. :D

    Over here is a photo of the 5920G with the bottom cover off showing the MXM II graphx module;

Hi Bigspin, Since ive made some FEAR benchmarks in stock clockspeeds and drivers on the Acer 5920G ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=136314&page=6), could you do one for your overclocked version? Just would like to get an idea of the increased framerates in real-world gaming benchmarks instead of 3Dmark. Thanks.

I also use the 162.15 modded version and the 2.02 of riva. So it should be the driver. :( Let's hope that with a new driver, it will be "fixed".

Are the moddified drivers preventing the HD-DVD from playing HD movies.. I know i do not have any HD-DVD Movies to try. So i would have never noticed this issue.. I'm sure alot of you don't don't own any either to test out.

Was this a one person issue only? Can those with moddified drivers still play HD-DVD's?

On my Aspire 5920G I get the following speeds from RivaTuner, Forceware 165, Vista Home Premium 32b. The GPU speed jumps as follows when I play 3D games (don't know if this is a common or new feature):

Means that when you do benchmarks, the GeForce 8600m GT in this machine should be a 513MHz GPU/800MHz 256M DDR3 memory - although slowed down by the 128-bit interface. I have to say that I got artifacts with the default driver, but this new one doesn't let me resume from hibernatation.

You missed quite a few posts. It's not 513MHz (it's 475MHZ) nor is it DDR3 unfortunately.

    Mine overclock.
That is kind of a overrew, because it raised each time with 300 marks with steps of 15 Mhz, except the lest step it just raised with 37 marks..

610/510 seems to be stable here, running at 90 degrees :) No artifacts and running great. Temp is according to nTune.

I just installed a new driver, so i have to see if il get higher (including removing **** like that Acer software. I heard it brings higher marks, setting vista skin to 98 style should work too.)
