Does anyone know if acer TM 4102 has easy access to its harddrive and memory at the bottom via screw on lids like the 8100 for easy upgrading?

hmm, i have the TM 4150, it should be the same thing. For the hard drive, theres one screw and u pull it out from the side, its really cool. The memory is on the bottom with 1 screw. Very easy to upgrade in my opinion.

Btw how would you compare 4150 to 4102? I'm still deciding on it. I know the differences are widescreen, integrated video vs x700/64m, 80g vs 60g harddrive. -
Trs1982,
1. The reason why your system only shows 444MB of ram is because your system has shared video memory. Your video card pulls from usable system memory. You should be able to upgrade to 1GB, but you have to find out what your current configuration is like (eg. 2x256MB or 1x512MB). If you have only 1512MB module, then you could just add another 512, if not, you'll have to remove the old and put in either 2x512MB or 1x1GB modules.
2. 40GB's of space might be enough space for some, it depends on your usage. What you may want to do is get yourself a 5400rpm or 7200rpm HDD to increase performance. Your current drive is most likely a 4200rpm HDD and this is causing a bottleneck (can't access the data/drive fast enough).
3. I'd go with an internal unit, but you have to make sure you know how to remove your old one before looking at a new drive. Some notebooks will allow the drive to be "ejected" and others need the system to be taken apart to unmount the drive. If you're is the latter, you may void your warranty. You can get an external, but this will cause you to carry an extra piece of hardware with you.
4. You're video card, well, sorry to say this, but you're stuck with what you have. You can't upgrade the video card from shared video to dedicated video. This is the one of the parts of a notebook you're stuck with after you buy it. Same goes for the systemboard & LCD (unless there's an option for a higher res LCD, then you can just swap).
Depending on what you want to do with the unit, the minor ram, HDD & optical drive upgrades would be OK. But if you plan on using it to play the lastest FPS games, then you're better off getting a new notebook (get one what an excellent video card).
