My 4501 came with the 40 GIG HDD and it is partitioned in 2 17gig drives. What exactly is the missing 6 gigs hidden for? Also if I were to completly format the drives will my restore disks work? or do they need restore info on that hidden 6 gigs?

I believe the hidden partition contains a copy of your restore CD so you can back a backup if your original flakes out.

If you wipe the drive, the Restore CD's should still work, but it'll format your system back to how it is now, 2x17GB partitions and a hidden 6GB partition.
