Let me give some background on it. The battery has been slowly getting weaker and weaker. It started shutting off ( when not plugged in ) around 60% battery and would take only 2 or 3 minutes to shut off from 100%. The charger I have is a little loose, but has worked for me for over a year. The computer today shut off on me, and I figured it probably overheated or something. Gave it a few minuets, and started it back up. Started and turned right back off. Now it wont even turn on, or take a charge ( light doesnt come on to show that its charging ). The charger works on other computers just fine so that is not the problem.

I'm not a computer expert by any means, so where do I begin. I was told I may have fried the motherboard by having a loose charger and it arced or something inside. Really hoping thats not the case as I cant afford a new computer and the $150 to get all the information off my hdd.

Any help or ideas as to how to fix it would be great. Thanks in advance.

It's possible that the power socket is loose- that would require a repair.
It would be easy to confirm it if you had a working battery but if (or when) it stopped working the computer worked of battery before it switched off so the battery is flat anyway.

BTW there's no way you'd have to spend $150 on recovering your data as no recovery is needed- copying is what's required.
I bought a USB to ATA/SATA bridge with a small PSU for molex for some ~$30.
That allows me to connect any notebook or desktop HDD (ATA or SATA) or an external desktop CD/DVD drive. That's the cost of the device- if anyone wants 5 times more for the sole act of copying your data it's not worth it.

Took it apart to find that the charging socket is fine with no loose or broken solder joints. Where to I look next, could my motherboard be shot?

Nope. I slid it out, inspected it, and reinstalled. I also tried it while it was out of the computer and nothing.
