I just purchased a 4810T laptop, formatted it, and loaded windows 7. Now on power saving Mode it says i only have 4 hours of battery left.. what happened to the selling point of 8 hours?

I'm thinking it might be because I don't have the empowering technology and power smart applications installed, but i can't install it anyway as it doesnt work on windows 7. So whats the problem here? my laptop, windows 7, or acer software?

    Help please, Thank you!

So far I using acer, there's no problem on his battery.
I think windows 7 is the suspect, it is the power-hunger OS.

Did you ever get 8 hours out of it using Vista (or whatever OS you had previously?). If you did then you may want to try installing empowering technology and the power smart applications. You can download them for Vista and install them the same on Win7. If you never got 8 hours out of it before you may not have the larger battery pack that is required for the full 8 hours.

I get roughly the same battery life in Win7 vs Vista and maybe sometimes a little more with Win7 as it is slightly more optimized (than Vista) and uses less resources. I've never compared it to XP though.

I've known a few companies to advertise a laptop with a battery life of 8 hours and this was only achievable with Linux. Usually with the same battery, Vista only gets around 6 hours.

Since Windows 7 is not official yet, not all drivers are fully optimized. Once the final release is out, batter life will rise.

You need to install launch manager and epower software. Also you need to run the machine with leafy battery turned on and power profile in battery saver with screen at lowest brightness.

With all the following I get 9 hours (real time) with wifi on my 3810TZ. Also note that by using battery saver profile windows aero will turn off but you will still have aero peek :)

Also both launchmanager and epower install flawlessly in windows 7.

Nine hours  that's awesome, I might have to get one of those puppies when I get some cash for it, many times wifi and a browser are all I'm using, and with nine hours, I can bring it out on the deck without 'watching the clock',
    sold! :p

EDIT: This has me onto a new project! Get the most runtime possible using free tools and my laptops, while leaving wifi enabled!

I used 2 notches to the right on brightness as its too dark for me, perhaps i can get used to it tho. I have wireless always on. I installed those two applications, but i cant run either of them, any exe's i run, dont open, so yea. today i got 8's on it, but its vary varried... like after 30 mins, itll say 6.40 hours... and now its 4.30 even tho i only used for 1 hour today. Any further tips?

The applications don't have anything you need to run. epower installs some tweaks to the windows mobility profiles and launchmanager just lets the OS recognize the touch sensitive buttons as well as give you an OSD whenever you you press a fn key like volume or caps lock, etc.

In order to hit 9 hours on wifi you have to have the machine in battery saver profile with leafy battery turned on. You will notice that aero will turn off. If you are still in power saver mode and turn off leafy battery you will notice aero comes back. This is because leafy mode puts the gpu in power saving mode which is where a lot of the power saving comes from. In this mode I have been able to have word, powerpoint with 5 different ppts open, excel, firefox with 5+ tabs open and the machine does not stutter at all. Also with media player classic home cinema gpu tweaks I can watch a 720p video with no problem but 1080p is unwatchable. Leafy mode off and highest performance profile 1080p video runs fine though with a maybe a stutter or two depending on the video. This is with the lowest end SU2700 so with the SU3500 it should run a tiny bit better and with the SU9400 you shouldn't have this problem at all.

So intalling the launchmanager and epower greatly increased battery life for you? I have been thinking about making a separate thread on how to go about installing Win 7 and getting great battery life with the Timelines.

It is touch button. Same line as power, end eject button. Next to WiFi and Backup touch buttons
