I am new to this forum but I have had great luck with forums in the past so here goes. I just purchase a new 4920G Gemstone, Core2 Duo 2 gig. with the ATI graphics. I am a computer guy of long standing so I went ahead without fear even though I can't stand the thought of running Vista. The salesman smiled and said that the machine would only run Vista. I love a challange. Several hours later I had Windows XP SP2 on my new 4920G with all the drivers patched from God knows where. Some from Europe, some from Japan and a few from Austraila. I have no fear. Everything worked. Only the empower button which relies on some bundeled Acer software did not function. I had a fond feeling of success, until I loaded a DVD.

The sound from the speakers and the headphone jack is too low? Is this typical for this model? I dare not hope so or Acer is going to have problems with their advertised Home Theatre Sound. I've owned many laptops and desktops and never had this low sound issue. No sound I could understand but all is functioning just very quietly. The Realtek controls all function, they just do so quietly. Any suggestions?

A general comment: In spite of all the negatives I read I am impressed with the overall build quality of the unit.

This is definitely just a software issue.
Not sure about where to get the driver, etc.

I agree that it is a driver/software issue. I loaded the Realtek 5.10 driver from the Acer site as it was the XP version listed. Now I am thinking that there is another Realtek driver out there better suited to this hardware. Any suggestions?
