5100 is the model series, whereas 5102 or 5101 is the model number. When I check my system properties it says Acer 1650z, when its a 1652zwmli. Its kind of like Car names and models. You can get a Ford Focus, but they come in a variety of different specs (ie, 1.2, 1.4, GLX, Sports etc)

Hope that kind of makes sense!

Do you mean the Windows Activation? If you reformat you usually have to activate Windows again, AFAIK you can't do this. Not legally anyway, perhaps their might be some haxorz sites out there that tell you, but I wouldn't know anything about that.

Note you can not avoid the regristy that is windows waiting for varification.

your computer is in the 5100 series
    your model number is 5102xxxx
your computer is a 5102 which is part of the 5100 series, don't worry about the number thing...

if you use a fresh copy of xp you must regrister it or it will give you problems(windows genuine advantage) trust me, i HAD an illiege copy(past, it's legal now), and one day my computer never turned on... so my advise registery it(it's quick)!!!!!

and if it is not legal/used to may times; get one thats legal, its worth saving the headache.
