I got a brand new 5101. I inserted the battery and i plugged the charger into the laptop.
When i switched on i noticed that the carge signal is not on, down at the tray.
Eventually the whole battery run out and the laptop switched off and is not swithcing on again, only for a few seconds.
I have tested the charger and it looks that is working at least is giving voltage.
Could it be the battery itself?
the easiest solution would be to give it back to where i got it but unfortunately i got it with me outside UK and going to stay here for a couple of months where there is no acer support.
any ideas?

I had similar troubles with my Acer the other day. Check the charger is plugged very firmly into the back of the laptop, mine needed just some firm pressure on it get it in place.
Remove the battery and check the contacts on the battery and the laptop battery connector. Give it a good blow just incase some microscopic crap is blocking the contacts.
Also charge it when the laptop is not on, and just keep checking for the orange charge light at the front whilst you twiddle with the connector. When/If it comes on, do not switch the laptop on straight away, leave it 20-30 minutes to allow it to build up a charge first. -
ok...this evening i connected the laptop to charger and and took the battery off..put it back on...and did it a couple of times...
eventually the orange light came on and it keeps flashing...does this mean charging?
when i switched on pc...it would power down straight away
