    I don't get it
(So, what else is new?)

How do you update the ATi Catalyst Control Center on this Laptop???

I'm running Media Center Edition 2005 (Came with the Laptop), on a 5102WLMi

I do have what appears to be the newest display driver for my ATi Express 1100 from the Acer Web Site (v8.251), but why is there no download available from Acer for the Catalyst Control Center?

In looking at the control center interface, it appears I have some God awful old version.
It says under "CATALYST Control Center Version" :
v1.2.2308.14812 (I'm not even sure I'm reading the right thing, and I'm assuming this is some Acer OEM version, although it doesn't say so any where that I can see).

It may be v6.1 too (Which is what "filehippo update checker" says), not sure.

Sorry if this has been asked many times before, but in my searching here, I see some threads saying "Wow!" "A new Catalyst Control Center available!"

Yet, at the same time, I see other threads that say if you download it from the ATi site, it will not work for this Acer Laptop...that it's designed for the desktop even if you select the Radeon Express 1100 Catalyst Control Center DL from the "Media Center Edition, Integrated/Motherboard" section at the ATi web site.

So if it won't work for XP, why doesn't Acer have a version available for download?

    What gives???
And how do I update this thing?

    Thanks for any help. :)

(EDIT) By the way..I'm not a gamer and I don't do any video 'tweaking'.
Do I even need this damn thing at all???

Just go to the ati website and download the latest catalyst software suite (7.12). That includes the latest drivers and ccc. The ones from the acer website are really old.

And don't worry, I've been running the ati catalyst drivers (from ati.com, not the acer ones) for the past year+ on my 5102 just fine.

    Thanks adinu

    And what is the procedure?
Should I un-install all remnants of the old CCC before installing the new one?
    And how about the drivers?

That is, do I use Device Manager for anything, or just uninstall the old CCC and run the .exe that comes with the Suite?

    Thanks again.

I would uninstall the stuff from the control panel "add or remove software" section, then use driver cleaner pro to clean out the old drivers. Then reboot and just install the new drivers.

    Thanks again adinu!

Everything seemed to go well and is working fine.
I did notice one thing though.

In the Catalyst Control Center now, under "Graphics Adapter" it says:

"ATi Radeon Express Series" instead of "ATi Radeon Xpress 1100" (Which is of course what it is).
Is that how yours shows it with this version too?

My old Control Center actually called it "ATi Radeon Xpress 1100".

I'm sure I installed the proper suite...is that normal that it isn't saying 1100, but rather just "ATi Express series"?

    Thanks once again.
