Well, I was in the middle of a disk defrag. and the power went out and I was on AC. Upon rebooting, everything seemed fine except that the touchpad no longer works. Actually, it worked for brief moments right when the desktop first appears on boot up (then it stops working after about 5 seconds), and then again if I disable and then enable it using the 'Mouse' function in the Control Panel.
I have tried everything I know how to do - uninstall the device from the device list in Control Panel, then have it redetect the touchpad - didn't work (it detected the touchpad and said it had installed the driver, and asked me to restart, and the touchpad still didn't work). Uninstall all of the driver software, then re-install it - didn't work (again, it was able to detect the touchpad, but didn't work after restart). Even uninstalled all of the driver software, uninstalled the device from the device list in Control Panel, then restarted and tried to manually detect new hardware in the Control Panel - still no luck. Then I downloaded the drivers from Acer and tried those, and it's still not working.
Again, it seems to work for brief moments upon startup, when I disable, then enable the device, and even when I select 'Properities', it works for about five seconds and then stops. In the task bar, it looks like the software is "freezing up" b/c the dot that indicates the touchpad is being used just remains lit, but the touchpad and and the touchpad buttons do not work.
Any suggestions?

Try system restore
if no good then try to Reinstall OS.
If still no good, say hello to Acer warranty. -
Actually, I forgot the mention, the first thing I did was to restore to a point before the defrag. and that didn't work either. You really think that a re-install of the OS is the only way to go?

call acer first they might have a quick fix
