got a new hd for my 5102wlmi, a 60gb seagate 7200. I'm done reinstalling all the drivers, but when i ran Steam to open Counterstrike and Natural Selection, for some reason the gpu freaks out when i put the settings on 1680x1050 widescreen on openGL 32bit.
anyone know what's going on?
like when i put it on opengl 32bit, literally the video just freaks out, there's a like a million bars scrolling up and down, left and right and i can barely see anything.
but the thing is... before i got a new hd, on the OEM hd before i swapped it out, that's the setting what i normally played on, for both games... so i'm not sure what exactly i'm doing wrong here.
help me out >.< this is getting more frustrating lol

Just a few observations (as I also own a 5102
)...
First of all if you are using the notebook's native LCD (and not an external monitor); then a resolution of 1680x1050 is not possible to achieve on the 5102. The max resolution of any aspire 5100 LCD is 1280x800 and in the past the game would have been reducing the resolution and you didn't even know.
Second if your 5102 came with the xpress 1100 integrated graphics processor then unfortunately that card doesn't work very well with openGL you can blame ATI (and their drivers) for this.
Third hard drives usually get their drivers from windows so there is no need to install a driver for it, so this probably isn't what is causing problems.
The only thing I can think of is perhaps to make sure that you have reinstalled the chipset driver also make sure you are using a the latest display drivers. -
well i tried the newly released ati drivers on their website that was just released this month. with that i can get the res bac up to 1680.
i'm using an acer 22" widescreen lcd, that's why it's so high you're probably like wth?
yes i'm using another monitor.
but using that new driver is what causes the problem..
when i revert back to the old drivers off from acers website, the highest i can go is 1240x whatever, and successfully run 32bit opengl with the usual 100fps what i use to get. i don't know it's so goofy. maybe i wasn't running 1680 before, i'm too stressed out.
cause after i installed the new seagate hdd, the OEM pos 4200 Hitachi just crapped on me, and i lost everything. it's hooked up in my external case and the comp doesn't pick it up. all 4 of the computers in the house doesn't pick up the hdd. sometimes it picks up mass storage unit, sometimes not, but it never shows up the driver letter in my computer..
>.< Partition magic and acronis both doesn't pick up the hdd. so i'm coming to a conclusion that it has died.
