Ok. I have an 5315. When I go to power it up off the battery, nothing.
When I take the battery out then put it back in, sure enough it lites off.

Anyone had any issues with this ?

Do you have a battery tester available? You may want to start off with that, just to see if the battery is in fact holding a charge or not. If the battery itself turns out to be working normally, you're probably looking at a hardware issue related to either the connection with the battery, or to the power-feeding portions of the motherboard. In that case, I'd take it in, if it's still under warranty.

Don't quite understand the "sure enough it lites off bit" :)

Try removing AC adapter and battery, then press and hold power button for 20 seconds. Refit AC adapter only and check laptop boots OK. Now shutdown and remove power.

Refit battery and power up again checking it appears to show charging OK. When showing fully charged shutdown again.

Now see if it now boots off battery OK.

    |out of curiosity when you power it off do you power it off or send it to sleep|hybernate modes?
I've had the same issues with my old MSI and it was due to bugged ACPI states when resuming.

Thanks all. I'll look at the power settings. When I mean lites off, I mean
it starts up once I take the battery out and put it back in, under battery
power. It does charge and is working good. It's not in warranty. I
did something under power settings, because it used to start right
up with the battery. It does start up with the AC plugged in. The battery
holds a full charge and the unit runs off the battery for a couple of hrs.

I'll follow the advice of post 3, once I see what I did in power.

Well most odd. I took both the AC off as well as the battery and pressed
the power button to discharge any remaining current for at least 1 min.

Tried to start the unit via the battery being in place after I reinstalled it
and it did start. Shut it off and tried to start off the battery only with
no luck. Simply moved the battery out of it's connection and then
reinstalled and it fires off. Fires off with the AC plugged in.
Cleaned the connections at the laptop to battery connections.
    No difference.

Readjusted power settings to default, same thing. It's no big deal,
but it would be nice if I didn't have to undo the battery if only for
a just a second then lock it back in...

I went into BIOS and changed the drive from sata to IDE, still no start.

I did just a few days ago update to BIOS 1.45. Wonder if that has
anything to do with it ?

    Thank you for any input.

    Bob

Have these problems only started since you altered and updated things (like the BIOS) ?
