    Hi guy,

I m thinking to upgrade my 5315 acer aspire too but I read a lot in this forum and around and i m still not 100 percent sure...
So clearly : do all the 5315 are upgradable...?
Acer support website is clear enough not to confused version or model... so why some users report bios flash problem on some 5315?

I m quite excited to upgrade but also anxious of course...

My acer is a Acer Aspire 5315-202G12Mi (by the way what does "202G12Mi" means?)
My english is a bit ty sorry hope you get me --at least--

    Rami

    1. Yeah all 5315 are upgradable, the motherboard and the chipset is the same.
    2. BIOS flash problem can occure not only with 5315 but with any laptop - it's a risky update. Basically you have to be sure that you have a stable machine(No random crashes caused by unknown reason) and you're not running any programs when you attempt a BIOS update.
    3. 202G12Mi...not really sure. Laptop models usually have variations.
For example: 5315 model line can come with CPU 1,4/1,6/1,73Ghz and HDD 60/80/100GB. So 202G12Mi may mean that your 5315 has CPU 1,6Ghz and HDD 80GB. Can't explain it any better I'm a non-native English speaker myself ;)

Well i have got an old bios version 1.17 or something like that, and i noticed that bios available on acer support website is 1.45 for the French one (only appliable in Windows), from 1.16 to 1.43 on acer europe, and 1.34 on acer USA.
It is a bit confusing although as i understand (and correct if i m wrong) i have to choose the latest one. Is it "intelligent" to update bios in 2 step like 1.17 to 1.33 and then 1.33 to 1.45 or not?
And to clear all that : which is the first bios version that allowed FSB800 on 5315?

    (ATG : Thanks!!)

    Greatings

No idea which is the first BIOS to support FSB800, maybe after 1.33...? Not sure.

1.45 is available only on some of the sites so we don't know much of it. I suggest you upgrade directly to 1.43, it's well known version, has no issues(as far as I know) and it works great. Get it from the Euro site. It's "made" for Vista but works perfectly under XP.

When updating the BIOS keep it simple. No need for "step" updating, the latest version include all the updates from the previous versions.

Well last thing im wondering ! I m definitly afraid to flash it through Windows. I will burn a cd with the neccessary files but do i need special others settings (joliet or other) in order to burn the cd (except to do it as bootable cd)?

    Well have fun
